What to do in Port Arthur

Me and my mates are planning to visit the place in mid January 2021. Do we have to go through the tours for the tickets or can we just get the tickets from the counter like any other sites? Any idea for the ticket prices if we get from the counter?

Incredible piece of history. Staff were exceptional with their knowledge of the location, its history and significance. Come with plenty of time to enjoy a leisurely walk around the grounds and gardens. Recommend you do the walking tour and short informational cruise.

This was my second visit, this time I brought my children. My favourite tour this time around was the isle of the dead tour. Such a wonderful tour guide was Stan. It was a shame the ghost tour wasn’t running the evening we stayed as I had hoped to do this for some time.

I just went for the photography and have not been there for quite some time but was appalled by the monstrosity of the admin building. It is ugly. The historic buildings were lovely and autumn colours were great. The memorial sites is too hidden.

Attended the night time ghost tour of the site. The guide was informative and friendly, the tour consisted of many different places with interesting background stories. Few little spooky encounters to treasure, the tour was not rushed. would reccomend.

Can not visit Tasmania and visit here for two pieces of our history. Firstly the arrival of convicts in Van Diemens Land, secondly the Port Arthur massacre. Such a sad place for both reasons, but well preserved and part of our past and recent history.

Definitely a great place to go. You need a full day to appreciate it all. Half a day is taken up just by the introductory tour and boat tour. Though you definitely want to go on a day which isn't raining to properly enjoy walking around the grounds.

Used to be a prison for convicts, well maintained, amazing stories, recommend the guided tours, contrast in colours worth the mention

Must go when in Hobart to see the buildings used during the early settlement period of Europeans in Australia. The outdoor park is quite large with plenty of ruins to see. The ticket comes with a free walking tour and boat ride as well! There is also a memorial site located near the cafe which is worth a visit.
