What to do in Port Arthur

Me and my mates are planning to visit the place in mid January 2021. Do we have to go through the tours for the tickets or can we just get the tickets from the counter like any other sites? Any idea for the ticket prices if we get from the counter?

an amazing site with amazing history attached. the memorial garden was beautiful. the harbour cruise and introductory talk included in the ticket were informative and worth it. we didn’t get to see everything as we were only there for 4 hours so I suggest allocating at least half a day if not the whole day to see everything!

Must to visit: UNESCO Heritage, one of the oldest and iconic ruins that standing in the whole world. Book a tour, expect to spend a whole day. Activities pretty much cover the whole day and price is not bad $40 not mistaken including cruise. Tour guide will provide an insight of the place history .

Awsome place to take the family to learn about the history of the early settlement of Port Arthur and how they built and used the site for. There is so much to learn and take in if you cannot get to everything you can come back the next day and finish off looking around the site. You can even learn and pay tribute to the ones that lost their lives in one of the worst things that happened. There are various tours or boat rides out to the cemetery where it would be explained on a guided tour as well. There is a couple of cafes or you may bring a picnic lunch and sit around the site and take in the atmosphere of the site.

Beautiful Historic sites. When the weather is good, stay at Port Arthur for 2 days. You need one day just to enjoy the historic sites. It is full with interesting stories, and every building has it's own stories, so take your time to read it. Tip: Arrive early and after the introductory tour, go to the asylum, museum and new jail as there are lots of info's there. Then stroll to each little houses ther.

A must do when visiting Tasmania. So much history and devastation, but important to learn about. Entry ticket includes a guided tour and cruise. Very reasonably priced. There is a fun card game for children (and adults) which helps make learning fun.

Great historical representation of what occurred in this location many years ago. The staff were great and the grounds were so impeccable. The general entry tickets include a short tour and boat trip.
