The Gingerbread House Katoomba

2 Stars because this place can be a lot better. What they do is nice but not what you expect. Gingerbread House you would expect it to be family friendly although their food menu doesn't have a kids section something to work on. Entering the place first impression it is an old church instead of a Gingerbread house, they can improve a lot on the decoration, lights, arts to cover the high walls... The souvenirs can also be more diversified, Staff could be dressed a bit better to create a theme... In all i sort of liked my visit but i had different or better expectations.. i wanted to feel in a place different! where my son would say WOW!! but was not the case.

Cosy, friendly, cute cafe in an old church with stained glass windows. Nice for morning tea. Good coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Everyone enjoyed their cake or scone. A gluten free cake and gluten free cookies were available. Lots of very cute chocolates, lollies, jams, honey and tea leaves to buy. We didn’t have lunch as nothing suited my strict dietary requirements. There’s an outdoor area good for kids to play in or to catch sunshine. The Gingerbread House is wheelchair accessible, and my wheelchair fit through the toilet door, but it’s not a wheelchair toilet. Toilets are labeled Hansel or Gretel. 😄The cafe would be harder to access when very busy as the pathway past tables aren’t huge. Tables are big share tables very close together. On our day with being medium busy, it was fine. The street is on a steep slope and there is street parking with an hour limit outside.

A flight of hot chocolate (traditional, ginger and chili)! That's just the start. Superb range of sweet deserts and chocolate. Excellent kids play area! And reasonably priced!!

We went here two days in a row, the jaffles are so good, especially 'Jack and the Baked Bean'. Amazing. My only criticism is they only have white bread, would have been nice to get some wholemeal or something

My family and I had an unpleasant experience with one staff member who didn't want to ask the kitchen staff to cut the sandwiches 4 ways for my little kids. He had a generally surly demenour before that but this was rich. He obviously thought cutting a sandwich 4 ways was a step too far! He eventually reluctantly agreed after a minor argument. I then saw him go straight into the kitchen and laugh at my expense. If the lady he was speaking to was the owner, it's unfortunate she didn't decide to come out and ask if all was OK. She should do herself a favour and fire that employee. Times are tough enough without hiring surly and unhelpful front office staff. What a simple and effective way to ensure we never go back and no one we know does. Food was OK. Not bad. Definitely not great. One of the toasted sandwiches (cheese) was almost empty of filling. For $10 a piece they are overpriced (cheap Tip Top bread with a tiny amount of filling would set you back 30-50c Max to make). Not good value. Other sandwiches were nice though.

Always a good place to stop after a day in the Blue Mountains.
