We rocked up on a Saturday evening, attracted by the front beer garden and the great solo singer, guitarist entertaining the full house. We decided it would be worthwhile to wait for a seat. There was an electronic table ordering service using a QR code and smartphone. The drinks were cold and came quickly. The food service, sadly, lagged far behind. Sitting outside and hungry, I certainly felt the affects of the beer quickly. Never mind- it put me in the mood to sing loudly and with gusto to the popular tunes being belted out by the muso!😁. The wait staff apologised for the food delay. She was very professional about it. I had the Guinness stew. It tasted okay but it wasn’t very warm and I felt sad about the small portion size. I think I’d be more inclined to eat elsewhere first next time. Generally highly frequented pub, big beer garden with fab music, professional staff, lovely old pub -but the kitchen really needs to lift its game.

This place had a really interesting history which made it a fun and unique experience. We only had a few drinks but really enjoyed them and the environment. It's small on the inside but we were able to grab a table near the bar. Definitely recommend this to anyone visiting.

Bar staff make this place. Looks a whole lot newer than half the pubs in South Australia, but I guess I'll take their word that they are the oldest. But the staff are amazing. Oi. Owner. Given these fellas and lasses a raise. Theybare amazing. I put 300 bucks through your business since I got treated like a human. Not all the pubs in the rocks treat you like that. 10/10 would come here again.

The Fortune of War is a fantastic pub due to its history and makeup however it seems the management assumes that this alone will keep them in business. When I and my partner came to the place for lunch we waited over an hour for food, which came with items missing (sauce, sides). I had to chase up so many errors in the service it made for a fairly awful time. Many other customers also seemed unhappy and two actually complained about it to me. This was because I had to wait for about ten minutes just to pay because the bar and cash register was unmanned and so people next to me were unable to order drinks. This is NOT the staffs fault, one woman was on the floor and was meant to be the only floor waitress, the only barman and one of two runners from the kitchen. This sort of service is completely unsustainable and I, and I'm sure a lot of others, will not be returning to the place until this is fixed by management.

Great pub and location. The live music made the place special, food was VERY slow to arrive, but a cold drink, a warm jacket and live music made the evening memorable.

Great pub in a great location. Outdoor seating and entertainment over the weekend. Super place even if they don't serve VB and Carlton Draught!
