The Duke

The food is good. We got the lamb, delicious. While the sides could be improved. The lamb and sweet potato mash were 10/10. Perfectly cooked and perfectly seasoned. The pizza wasn't amazing but was good. The base was perfect, not to thick, not to thin but I recommend the lamb. They were short staffed the night we were there and couldn't do cocktails but otherwise the service was good. If it's cold, get a seat by the fire.

Owner was unprofessional and told one of the members of our group that she, when asking about more pizza, told her to share it around and just take one or two slices, nowhere near enough for dinner. We were waiting long times for our food and when we finally received it we were dissatisfied as it was either burnt or undercooked. I am unsure if this is a normal occurrence or not but our entire group was eating from napkins, we want plates. The bathrooms were horribly dirty and there was something sticky on the floor sooo :/. I wanted to tell the staff but they looked tired, stressed and confused and one of them was being told off. The jazz band was good but they just can’t balance out the fact that everything else was bad. The owner was cheering and screamed right next to us and we couldn’t hear large parts of the music, I feel like my eardrums have been permanently damaged.

Very friendly staff and nice atmosphere

I would not go again to this establishment. I had multiple problems with this place, the food, the staff and owner, and the space. The food was either burnt or undercooked, and often both. My margarita pizza was burnt on the top, and crust, but undercooked in the middle. It was, mediocre to say the least, it wasn’t terrible but I was underwhelmed. The vegan pizza was genuinely disgusting, and I had 3/4 of a sluge before I had to put it down. The owner was incredibly unprofessional at best, and consistently told my group off for wanting a bit more food. The service was incredibly slow for the amount of food that was coming out. We had a very large group so I can understand how that must be difficult, but it was extremely slow. The bathroom situation was horrible, with dark sticky liquid all over the floor, which I couldn’t determine what it was. The high point of the night was the jazz group that played, which was very entertaining but does not make up for the multitude of problems I had with this place. I did not have a good experience and wouldn’t go back there again.

Absolutely stunning service and wholesome food. Kartika, thank you so much for your joyful way of being and interesting stories. We are so glad we stumbled upon The Duke tonight, you brightened up our days and we left with smiles on our faces. The food was warming and my nana reckons it’s the best onion rings she’s ever had (and she’s had a few). We felt entirely comfortable and at home in your venue after a few difficult days.
