We ordered the chef's four course recommendation which were choices off the menu. They ended up giving us a bunch of sub-par choices such as onion bread (which ended up being the largest dish we got) and 1/4 chicken (1/2 chicken was only $8 more) - very average in what is meant to be a classy Japanese restaurant. When summing the items it would have been cheaper to order the items individually than via the set menu. Ordered a drink and it was forgotten - ended up having to reorder and it still took another 20 minutes.

Super good vibes at this place, while you may think that the authentic Japanese experience is lost by the ambience, you soon realise that it is a great marriage between modern Australian and Japanese. The staff were friendly, service was good and the meals and drinks were decently priced.I had the “feed me option” , a four course meal selected by the chef which was amazing.

Amazing food, amazing service! Sat at the bar and Tom in the kitchen was the most friendly and interactive chef that turned the experience into an 11/10. Keep slinging amazing dishes Tom!

Loved the atmosphere and the flavours of this traditional Japanese restaurant in the trendy Leigh Street in Adelaide CBD. Would highly recommend the dumplings and the special rice. We were fortunate to sit in front of the kitchen which was quite entertaining to hear the orders called and the meals prepared while we waited for ours.

Great food, best creative Japanese style in town. Personal opinion, don't go for the set menu even if it's your first time, just order what seems to attract you, and you won't be disappointed, whereas I disappointingly learnt this in a hard way. The missing star is because I didn't like the music, and I don't know why they like raps so much. I would expect some J-rock or J-pop instead, as it's apparently a Japanese restaurant.

A fabulous dining experience, simply AMAZING. Not pictured here sadly is their crab udon which was definitely the favourite for me. Definitely want to try their yakitori next time!

Really popular restaurant, make sure to book way in advance online if you need a specific time and even a specific seat (inside or outside). Food was high quality and fresh however for the price you pay, food wasn’t up to that standard which was disappointing as we read many many reviews in regards to Shobosho and was expecting the best. I may be comparing too much to actual food in Japan’s standards. We ordered extensively and got better value rather than ordering the 4 course $75 set menu.

Delicious, out of the ordinary Japanese dishes and flavours. I love going to restaurants where you can share so you get a little taste of everything. In our party of 4 guests we ordered 10 dishes (9 unique but overall 10 because we doubled up on 1 dish) and we had some leftover for takeaway. Good service, good food, good wine selection. Would definitely recommend.

Special. Vibrant, balanced food - which offers dishes and flavours I’ve not tried before. Loved it! The team are pretty great also.

Great atmosphere, it felt like a Japanese bar but with an Aussie twist. The food was spectacular, especially the dumplings. Enjoyed the sake selection, and the service was on form.

Description

At Shōbōsho we blend smoke, steam, and fire; ancient traditions of Japanese yakitori, with the finesse, skill & texture of all that is raw, cured, pickled and fermented. From a specially-commissioned cooking line consisting of a wood oven, hydraulic grill, rotisserie and customised yakitori pit, the element of fire will speak through simply seasoned, seared meats and vegetables. The menu takes a journey through raw to cooked, with yakitori, noodles, dumplings, bao, robata grilled and spit roasted meats. Our bar and kitchen operates all day. From lunch, to snacks with afternoon sakes, and right into the night. SHŌ Shō is an intimate 8-seater yakitori bar where charcoal-grilled sticks take centre stage in this casual spin-off of our main restaurant.
