So the story goes that up the road from this place when it opened, sat Messina. Messina, the messianic gelato shop that captured the essence of all that was the 3 smoochers of masterchef. Their gelato was piled as high as their line of punters. They seemed as unassailable as Djokovich with a 2 set lead. And here opens rivareno...all their gelato is hidden. Their logo and shop are pedestrian. All their ingredients are NOT aussie (aussie aussie). And not much happens there for about a year. And then it slowly changes. People sniff around like a doggie let out of its kennel after a while, and discover that this gear isn't to be feared. It's to be revered. And then, a few years pass and the unthinkable happens...Messina ditch their piled high models and...yep, put their still yum gear under the lid, like their brave upstart did earlier. Messina is still good, but rivareno is special. I travel about as much as a budgie smuggler (chill, I agree animal smugglers deserve to be wrapped up tight and put on long haul baggage holds forever...its a metaphor), and eat gelato like a champion. This is the best.

The gelato is really good (I had the Strawberry!) and the single scoop is a very generous sized portion. It was quite difficult to read the board when making a selection, partly because of the font chosen and the small size on the cards displayed, and partly because of the direction of the lighting (which I assume is to prevent the heat of the lights being pointed directly at gelato) with half pointed at the board and half at the customer.

The best gelato in Sydney in my experience. I have tried other popular gelato place but this one is the next level, trust me. This where ice cream is iced cream gelato is something else. Provare per credere.

One of the best ice cream in Sydney! Yes better than Messina. The tastes are well balanced, not to sweet and you can feel the ingredients well, and it's super creamy, really good! For once, you get good value for the price!

Yum yum yum yum!! The most incredible texture and flavours. Originally hailing from Italy, Rivareno is authentic. The gelato is perfectly silky and I can verify that if you take home a tub, the texture will remain perfect in a normal freezer (serious witchcraft). Always take a look at their specials, as they are some great ones, but our household favourites are Cremino Rivareno (if you love Nutella, you will lose your mind), Cremino Dark (if you love Ferrero Rocher, you will lose your mind), Nocciola, Pistacchio and Bacio. If you haven't been, GO. NOW!!

Small servings and high prices, but it's fancy 'authentic' Italian gelato I guess. There's often a fun atmosphere there and good people watching along Crown St. But not much in the way of variety. The staff are generally direct but ok, and they do get pretty busy.
