What to do in Port Arthur

Me and my mates are planning to visit the place in mid January 2021. Do we have to go through the tours for the tickets or can we just get the tickets from the counter like any other sites? Any idea for the ticket prices if we get from the counter?

Lots to see and do. We had a lovely trip with family after not having been to Port Arthur for over 30 years when we were kids. It has significantly changed with a lot of new museum like developments to explore. We did all the tours which were interesting. Not as creepy as i remember but well worth the visit.

A very interesting history lesson about Tasmania in the 1800-1900. Very worthy. Is it. Ensure you had 2 days to see the place. It’s huge! Cruise and the escape tours are must!!! Optional is the isle of the dead!

A fantastic way to present and educate everyone on the history of the port. Beautifully maintained historic site buildings and gardens makes this a wonderful afternoon. Sign up for the boat trip and walking tour.

Great experience, definitely worth waiting in line in the rain to get in. I wonder what it would look like today if the fires hadn't destroyed so much.

What a wonderful place, rich with history. If you have the time, book in for the guided historical tourwhich will include the boat ride out to the "Island of the Dead". Also dont forget to take the night ghost tour. Port Arthur has one of Australia's most haunted buildings. Let's just say, you wont be disappointed.

Place is good, though we couldn’t explore everything due to bad weather. Staff offered us to come on next day with same ticket, which is really appreciated. Unfortunately the ghost tour is not available in all days, which is disappointing. There is courtesy cart available for elderly.

If you're a visitor to Tasmania make sure you plan at least a full day to visit Port Arthur. The drive from Hobart takes about an hour and a half and takes in some great views of the Tassie coast. The cost of entry includes a guided tour and a short boat cruise. We nearly always include Port Arthur in the itinerary for our visitors and enjoy a picnic lunch in the lovely grounds.

Did the ghost tour then visited during the day. Great place with so much history. It's open rain or shine so go prepared for any weather. The staff are all very friendly and full of information.

This place is a site of historic tragedy that we all must know to understand our present day. The way in which the past is presented is both sensitive and conveys the horrors of the past. Well done!

Unfortunately I had to postpone my booking due to Covid, the response from the owners regarding this matter was outstanding and I definitely can't wait to visit in the future. The missing star is only due to the fact that I haven't been there in person, I'm sure once I visit, I can add that missing star.
