Hog's Breath Cafe

Partner and I went for Christmas Eve dinner for a good steak. Compared to previous years it was a slight let down for the hefty price tag on some of the steaks. However everything else including drinks seemed reasonable. The only major let down was the cooking of the steaks itself. 1. During ordering we were asked how we wanted it cooked, these being medium rare. However when we received them they were well done. Upon bringing this up with the manager he explained that they were slow cooked and could not be controlled. So slightly confusing why they asked to begin with. Also in places the steak was tender and others was quite tough. 2. Curly fries were good however a little on the cold side, was hoping for fresh fries with a $45 meal 3. Service was overall pretty good, servers and manager were lovely however it was clear some people were not sure what they were doing with only being given 1 set of cutlery and having to ask for another. Overall, a good steak. But just didn't quite hit the spot like old times

Was quite slow to get a table but given the COVID prepations that could be understood. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the chicken salad. Popular for burgers and ribs. Very American style food.

Fast service, good food, fair price 👌🏻

Literally come here rather than a “nice” night out at a fancy restaurant. This place is filling, reasonable prices and family friendly. Only criticism is no lift for pram or disabled persons. Paid the same amount here as SheShells restaurant in the bay (higher rating) and walked out of there hungry and angry. Hogs breath needs to survive as it’s simply the most relaxed and chilled restaurant in the Bay. Will always come back here.

Great service .Good food but pricey

I truly think the staff here need a training on how to work in hospitality! Three of us came in, were sat and as soon as we sat we had a waitress in our face asking if we wanted drinks. She sent the drinks, and then when the drinks were brought to our table not even a minute later, the next waitress asked if we were ready to order... Next to no time to even think about the menu! It just got progressively worse from this point... We were checked in and seated at 12:20PM and didn't receive our food until 1:10PM... a 50 minute wait for our food with not even a half full restaurant. This wasn't even what annoyed me, it was that there was no acknowledgement of the wait, no offering of anything to compensate for the inconvenience. The manager herself took our food order, so she should know well enough how to check on customers. Once the food arrived, dijon chicken plate was mostly salad. I know this is a 'side' but common sense doesn't prevail, who wants to order a chicken dish and have their salad bigger than the chicken? No one. Not only that, but my dish was cold, but I also didn't really touch my chicken as halfway through, I wasn't sure if it was cooked. Waiting 50 minutes and not even being able to trust the food being cooked properly is an incredibly poor sign. The manager only asked us how things were once our plates were stacked and she took them away. But offered us dessert? Going off of the wait time for the mains, we skipped dessert in fear that it would have melted by the time we saw it. $93 for what? Also please remember that if there is no mention of a public holiday surcharge, your staff need to open their mouths and let customers know! This is sneaky and downright disgusting behaviour to adopt. Please don't reply to this saying we should have brought it up in store to alert you. I have worked in hospitality as a manager for enough years to know how to run a restaurant. Customers won't bring up issues when you cannot get the attention of the staff and if the staff aren't checking on their tables... Well this review is deservedly yours. Please teach your staff good customer service because a prime location like yours deserves to have a restaurant and staff that care about their job and their customers. Absolutely disgraceful.

Huge meals, good value. Prompt, friendly service. Steaks are always perfectly cooked and wonderfully tender.

The wait staff were awesome, food was to die for, overall an absolutely amazing experience for my first time eating at Hogs Breath 🙂

The only downer to the visit was the fact the 18 hour slow cooked steaks were not on the menu, which is kind of the reason for going. Other than that the staff are friendly and welcoming. The steak was cooked perfectly and the sweet potato chips were crunchy as well as well cooked inside (not a fan when it’s not well cooked). The choice of sides were numerous and of a good variety so even picky eaters have a good choice. Nice meal and filling.

Really nice steak. I do love sitting out on the balcony. Summer or winter its always nice. The only thing I don't like here is the stair case.
