Top service, great food, and excellent wine selection.
Came here for lunch on a Friday. We sat right opposite the kitchen, it wasn’t noisy and it was nice to see the food being made. If you don’t like open kitchen there are other seating options. The food is amazing, such care is taken with each dish. Perfect place for sharing plates. The wine list is extensive and there are quite a few unique wines and options to choose from. Highly recommend.
Both wine and food was excellent. Great service too!! 😍
Smart casual modern Australian restaurant with great food and wine. Much grace comes from not trying to be too complex and just serving quality food. The steak and sides for example, it’s a steak, brilliant steak and simple sides of mustard & horseradish. Soft and chewy tripe with crunch bread crumbs is a rich warming dish. Peppers and dip, took me back to Lisbon. Excellent pasta too. Great restaurant.
Overall good experience, good starter and pasta dish. But Roast chicken is undercooked and still raw and bloody near the bone which is very disappointing, although the mushroom source is good.
We had a fantastic experience here with a quick dinner before the movies around the corner. The service was just so pleasant, helpful, attentive and generous - particularly in relation to accommodating one vegetarian diner with simple variations to dishes. The food was delicious, light, fresh, full of flavour, beautifully presented and perfect for sharing. The bread rolls are sensational especially with the st David’s butter - such attention to details make it feel like a sumptuous experience but at a very reasonable price. We also loved the rose!
Second time at Carlton Wine Room and the food is superb. Must order the scallop tostadas. Other highlights include the kingfish (which i really appreciated as it was not just a stock standard kingfish crudo which you see at most wine bars) and the stracciatella with pickled mushrooms. Unfortunately on this second occasion I dined with Carlton Wine Room, the service was lacking. We were placed in the cellar with one other table which didn’t receive much attention from floor staff. Too often there was glasses that needed clearing, water needed refilling or drinks needed to be ordered and we were left waiting. I would expect a venue like this to have more seamless and attentive service. It is worth noting I had wonderful service on the first occasion I dined here when we had a table upstairs.
Cannot recommend highly enough. My fave place out of all the places I went to on a recent trip to Melbourne. I’ve never had a mussel salad before, what a revelation! Professional assured service, great atmosphere and a curated wine selection. I’ll be back ASAP :)
Outstanding food, sharing encouraged, so, daughter and I tried a lot, refer start of sentence. Wine selection is interesting, but at lunchtime we didn't indulge.
excellent starters let down by mains. loved the anchovy bread, the croquette. favourite of the night definitely the stracciatella, superb. steak was a massive overcooked let down, and the fish...??? wish was told the chicken was available, but no mention from waiters, sadly because on prior visits I loved the chicken and would've picked it over the fish or steak. great wine list, overall good place for drinks and snacks.
