Brunetti - Carlton
4.3
/ 1803

380 Lygon St Carlton Vic 3053, Melbourne

Brunetti is a well established cafe, cake and chocolate maker in Melbourne. It's largest and oldest location being here, just off the famous Lygon Street. The choice is bewildering, truly. However beware, as even on a Tuesday night at 10pm it can be a tin of sardines like experience and is ALWAYS busy. However, I recommend you definitely avoid Saturday and particularly Sunday mornings where some snoberatti like to hog every seat, people watch, and pose with the Sunday papers and coffee. It's like a nightclub or trendy bar at these times so best to avoid and go through the week or later at night when the normal people and student contingent appear. Service is okay and that's only because its hellishly busy, they do their best, and food and drinks are always serviced hot and fresh. Expect to pay a premium here, this ain't no run of the mill cafe, but still it can be reasonable-ish for a very nice interior and overall 'Brunetti experience!'.

Hofbrauhaus

18-26 Market Lane In the heart of Chinatown 3000, Melbourne

I was extremely challenged by the Pork Shank. It was an appropriate size to match the 1L steins of German draught beer. The ambiance is very traditional and cozy, despite it being a rather large restaurant. Live entertainment was fantastic. Dancing, singing, live music -- all traditional German of course. I got the impression you need to book to get a seat, so call in advance.

Ate breakfast there. Super friendly, healthy food, good coffee. good place for a business breakfast or solo.

Left Bank Melbourne
3.9
/ 1170

1 Southbank Boulevard 3006, Melbourne

We have been to Left Bank a number of times now and never been disappointed and yesterday was no exception. I had a small gathering for my birthday (14 of us) and we had the perfect seating within the little "cave" with lounges. We ordered the Promenade platters to share and they were nothing short of outstanding! A foodie's heaven with fig stuffed lamb, salt & pepper calamari, cured meats, saganaki, crab & snapper dumplings and more! Left Bank have a great wine list too with some very reasonably priced boutique wines, along some $$$ ones if that's you're game. Cocktails were the flavour of the day yesterday and they have some really interesting ones! The staff are very friendly and attentive and we were very well looked after. We highly recommend Left Bank for a casual drink and bite to eat, a formal sit down dinner with 2 or more or a small gathering.

Cargo Bar & Eatery

Docklands Melbourne 3008, Melbourne

One of the best spots at Docklands, great staff, good wine list and excellent breakfast menu, just missing free wifi :( and a bircher Muesli :( the toasted Muesli is a minuscule disappointment

Grossi Florentino

80 Bourke St 3000, Melbourne

I have eaten at The Grill once but I tend to visit The Cellar Bar much more often due to its lower prices and more relaxed environment. I find the food in both cases quite lovely and favour their tortellini above anything else for a main. I think it is one of the few restaurants in Melbourne where the pasta is properly cooked and not over sauced. Following dinner the deserts are fabulous, my favourite being their baked cheese cake which I find to be the best I have tried anywhere in the world. They also offer a good selection of cheeses and other assorted deserts. The Cellar Bar is rather casual but can get a bit crowded around dinner time. Luckily they stay open till 11 which makes it a great place to have a late dinner or coffee. The Grill is a lot more formal and the service is very complete. Reservations are not always needed but advised if you are going for dinner.

Belgian Beer Cafe

5 Riverside Qy Southbank 3006, Melbourne

Great range of beers - all good. Staff are a little slow serving customers. I am regularly left standing at the bar (even when the place is empty!) for many minutes until I can flag some one to serve me.

45 New Quay Promenade Docklands 0, Melbourne

It only has advantage of good view and location. Bad selection menu and ordinary food. Yet expensive

A Hereford Beefstouw
4.5
/ 428

22 Duckboard Pl 3000, Melbourne

Such a great meal. What I was most impressed by was that there really is something for everyone. I can't imagine that's an easy thing to execute successfully - but it's made to look effortless at A Hereford Beefstouw. Our troop of 4 adults and 3 kids didn't look out of place amongst the business folk coming down on their lunch break due to the clever positioning of tables and chairs, and we were able to enjoy our meal fully as they were kept entertained by the colouring books/menu! I'm struggling to think of anywhere in the Melbourne CBD that has struck the sort of balance this place has which allows it to be on trend as well as practical, and serve quality food without being pretentious. We'll be back!

Entrecôte
4.2
/ 511

131-133 Domain Rd 3141, Melbourne

Tasty food, good wine and all just as pretentious as you'd expect for a French restaurant in South Yarra. Not as expensive, or quite as refined, as France Soir.

The European

161 Spring St 3000, Melbourne

The food was fantastic. The service was very top notch, very personal. It was a great little restaurant that had a beautiful romantic atmosphere.

Carlton Wine Room
4.7

172-174 Faraday Street Carlton 0, Melbourne

Think gourmet meals and you'll be on the right track for this place. The atmosphere was lovely and the service beyond exceptional. While the food was delicious, if you're looking for a hearty meal, I'd suggest you go somewhere else. However, if fine dining is what you're after, this place will not disappoint. Would be more than happy to go back again!

Very nice homey atmosphere, delicious food, great friendly staff. They show that they know what they're doing in your plates and your wine glasses without being pretentious. Well done!
