Best Sri Lankan food in Aus. I would eat here every week if I lived closer

The Mixed Rice with a combination of meats was both filling and satisfying. It reminded me of the authentic Sri Lankan fried rice. Portion size was quite large. However the only downside was the price indicated on the menu for the item was $19 odd and they charged me $20 odd. They really need to update their menu as this will create a bad reputation for Upali's. Also on a positive note the ambience of the restaurant is the bomb. The whole place is decorated with cricketing memorabilia, jerseys of the yesteryear so definitely worth a visit if you're a cricket loving fan. Will be back soon.

PLEASE READ The reviews provided are very misleading. There are serious issues with this restaurant. They are very very expensive, tasteless food and improper customer service. Their spring hoppers were overcooked and not soft at all. Kiri thothi was bland and insipid. Deviled chicken was overcooked. Not one item in the order was good. This place should consider menu from Elephant corridor.

A quite pleasant atmosphere compared to majority of the other SL restaurants in VIC. Went there on the 01/01 for lunch - was not that crowded however, felt it was short staffed as the service was quite rushed. The lady seemed to be quite organized although there was one gentleman who went about his business without even a single acknowledgment or any help with the service who continued to mop, spray and clean around the restaurant as it was closed for cleaning - came across as quite rude and disregard for others - perhaps the focus is more on dinner guests? In terms of food and drinks, loved the fish Ambul Thiyal and the cheese roti. The wood apple was quite good, the rice and curry was quite average The noodles and Kotthu rotti was ok - there was nothing distinct to mention as such. Overall there was no wow factor in food at the same time it was not a disappointment.

Very authentic south indian type cuisine - they are Sri Lankan I think, and so a little different from the curries in Malaysia. It's really delicious though. Portions are generally small and a little pricey.

Rude manager who was condescending and hostile. We were a party of 6, but had an unexpected cancellation by one person at the last minute. The person / manager at the front desk told us off in front of other patrons. She then berated us for a second time at the table. What a misrepresentation of our beautiful Sri Lankan hospitality! We do not pay good money to be told off in this fashion. There was no information provided at time of reservation about notification of cancellations. It was the people who attended who got “scolded”. Happy to pay your $20 extra for cancellations! Shocking behaviour by this manager who clearly lacks hospitality and customer service skills. Food was good and other staff were lovely. We have always supported Upali’s both online or in person but will no longer bring our custom after this.

We were advised to walk out the place, because the walk-in is only available after 5pm.

Dropped in to this restaurant and smelled great! However they messed up our order horribly, so after a really long road trip, I just had to take the food away and left hungry. The least they could've offered was to not charge us for the dish, but they did.
