Closest hawker-style assam laksa you can have outside of Singapore/Malaysia. You will have to ask for less noodles as they serve A LOT

3.5 out of 5. We've eaten at this Malaysian cafe many many times. It's always bustling. The food is good and service is quick considering it's so busy. They have most of the standard Malaysian dishes, and even popiah on the weekend. But our all time favorite is fish head meehoon. Serving size is generous, with a pile of ingredients and a really tasty broth.

Chicken Laksa soup was tasty, but it was the smallest bowl of laksa I have ever had in Melbourne, small entree sized bowl which reminded me of Malaysian sized serve - 2 to 3 mouthfuls and you're done :). Fresh Popiah did not have yam bean, I think cabbage was used as substitute - I didn't see exactly how much it cost as I ordered a plate after seeing another table eating them. But I think after deducting the final bill of the other dishes, the 2 rolls of Popiah cost about $12. For that sort of price, I think using yam bean is justified. The Fried Glass Noodles was an appropriate sized serve for the price. But I think Penang Flavours in Doncaster makes a much better one for this dish. Verdict - I guess if you are local to the area, want a quick Malaysian meal and don't mind dishes that are 'ok', then this place will do. I was a regular at the old Straits Cafe in Doncaster as it was near my workplace then and must say their food was much much better than this Wantirna branch.

It is not surprising that the place is always packed at lunch. I have not found any place who serves Malaysian hawker food as authentic as this. I have yet to try their Poh Piah. It is only availabe on sat and sun. When I called at 2 pm on sun, they have run out. I will not hesitate to recommend this cafe to any Malaysian food lovers.
