33 Playfair St & Argyle St, The Rocks
A fun and lively place for good casual hearty meals. There's indoor and outdoor dining and live traditional music playing. There's nice beer selection and even Wilder stuff like beer tubes to share and drinking out of a boot! This is definitely a more the merrier place :)
Great selection of German drinks the pretzel is also really good. Sadly, a great pretzel won't keep me coming back here. It was a busy night - and the food was delayed over an hour. Which we didn't mind with the entertainment. Unfortunately our schnitzels were pretty standard and our chips did not arrive hot. My partner had the tasting platter and the sausages were tasty and is definately come back for that plate. They had a really nice spicy one which I absolutely loved. The entertainment was live and a lot of fun, involving the crowd. Would probably come back here to try other dishes but probably not the Schnitzel.
Perfect location with good beer, good food and free traditional live music. What can be better?! Will definitely come back again and again.
Very joyful and vibrant atmosphere provided by the live band. Portions were huge, one platter apparently 'designed for two' fed 4 of us. Beers were excellent but it was quite pricey and it added up quite quickly. The food was very good, with a hearty serving of pork belly cooked to perfection with a side of apple compote, assorted sausages, schnitzel with gravy. However, pork knuckle which was too fatty my taste.
Definitely a must go place if you are a meat lover. The second time I came here, I ordered exactly the same dish as the first time I came here. Also, the meal was impressive. Crispy pork knuckle was really me favourite here. The skin was so good the flavor as I wish I could had another one. Pork knuckle served with potato mash and sauce. Just juicy and tender of the meat. Sauce tasting platter was also fine, worth trying. Beer here was also a star. You gonna be introduced by a variety of beers, really delicious. After all, I love here.
Dining here was like being in another world. A world of levity and warmth, swinging pints of German beer as the accordion band played on stage. The wait staff were dressed to the traditional party occasion, and the menu was easy to read (we chose all the platters!) the food was a while coming but no one was in a hurry. This is a place you can kick back and relax for several hours. You laugh here. You feast here. You can bring the bros here. But for an end of year party like the one we had, it was perfect. Top notch.
Typical German food in Sydney, good price with big portion! All the staffs in traditional German costumes which were cute and nice! However, the indoor dinning area was too noisy with the live band music and the games, we couldn’t chat with each other at all due to the high volume from the stage! And it would be more nicer to have more vegetarian selection on the menu.
My favourite German restaurant in Sydney! The pork belly here is excellent!!
Pro: Cold beers Con: Double charged on the credit card (which I'd suspected, so I snapped a photo of the recipe and followed up when I return from my Sydney trip) Both Prok Knuckles' orders were overcooked, most of the pork meat was dry, and the pork skin was burnt. The place was bustling during our visit, and it seems like the restaurant was under staff and lack QA/QC.
Great ambience, delicious food, nice beer, great music. Must try if you are in the area 👌☘️🙏 although it had mouldy damp smell in our last visit, not sure why.... the beer served not very cold n chilled.
