It really is with some torment that I rate one of my favourite restaurants so poorly. I have eaten here many time and many times, as with last night, I was wowed by the food. Such flavour and exciting presentation. Food alone and Longrain clearly get 5 stars from me. Last nights service was really poor, to the point that it impacted on our enjoyment of the amazing food and had my wife apologising to her family for the choice she had made to come here.
Scott Pickett was in the kitchen on the night and favourites for me were the beef skewers, silken tofu, egg net, flash fried snapper and my gin sin cocktail was also very good with a hint of chilli.
Our waiting team member clearly right from the start of the evening didn’t seem to understand what was required to keep a table of 7 happy. There was no welcome, or a run through the menu and our first interaction with them was when we were asked if we were ready to order food and drink, when we hadn’t even received menus.
Our drinks came erratically and wine separated from us by some distance meaning we couldn’t serve ourselves but non-attentive service meant we often had empty glasses and had to chase down someone to replenish. It was a busy St Patrick’s day evening but I’m sure with covid spacing the venue was at far less capacity than out previous visits so that can’t be an excuse
We were left quite loathing of the team member concerned to the point where people who were normally quite generous tippers absolutely refused to consider even a minor tip and the tip my wife and I gave was absorbed by the group.
Really hope that this was just one bad night.
