65 Macquarie St, Hobart
Nice vibe..open fire on a cold night..
This is one of the best old style pub lve been to, great food and service
I ordered a medium-well cooked steak. It's just perfect and excellent how and what I want. They used very good cut of meat, it just taste very very nice and juice, the pepper sauce is very fresh and beautiful. The chip us crispy outside and soft in side. The salad is very fresh as well. The steak meal is much much much better than a lot of bar in Hobart. Definitely recommend everyone.
Went here for dinner twice during our holiday. Open fireplace, Lovely food, nice beers and fantastic staff. Make sure you check out upstairs. Absolutely beautiful old building inside and out. Was our favourite pub in Tasmania 😊
Excellent food, great range of beers on tap. As the oldest pub in Australia it has all the memorabilia one would expect and a real wood fire. Obviously lots of people agree. So do you self a favour and book. Even really early on a Tuesday night it was a fluke to get a table.
Food was good. A little pricey but I suppose its leaning towards the tourists not locals. $12 for a small wine glass of spiced rum.......... closed very early for a Sat night.
What amazingly helpful staff. Fully reserved but we were just after some Hobart oysters and a drink. So we were squeezed it feed and watered. Thankyou to the two amazing female wait staff. Two extremely happy patrons with oysters (natural of course) and beautifully cooked salt and pepper calamari ( might even be the best calamari I have had...if not the best it would be up there) I wish we were staying longer as I would love to visit again. A beautiful crackling fire and in the front room an extremely romantic location.... We loved our visit. Thank you.
Old decor and great food. Porterhouse steak was really cooked to perfection. Lamb roast was good too.
Lovely old pub, staff are friendly and welcoming. I had the burramundi and chips, very fresh and highly recommended. Felt like I was back in an English pub with the fire going, good atmosphere and friendly locals.
A very ordinary dining experience. Bizarrely we had to order our food the day before. Our main courses arrived within five minutes of our booking time. With some of our group at the bar getting drinks and a couple still to arrive the food was just placed at the empty places on the table to be swapped around later. When ordering desert some had to give a first and second preference as wait staff didn't know which of the desert menu items where available. Food was of reasonable pub standard. Staff where abrupt and disorganised. I wouldn't say the place is to be avoided, but it's not on my list to go back to.
