Really enjoyed the experience. The food was first class. Service excellent. I am a little disappointed with being prompted for tips on an eftpos machine. I think top class service should be a given in our lucky country, not have to pay for it.

Oyster night is the best deal to enjoy yourself :) Thank you Lina for great service! Would strongly recommend to book a table ahead - although you can get lucky, but from our experience it's really hard to get a table as walk in.

A must do food and drink experience. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. Food is delicious. Oysters are fantastic. King crab and lettuce tacos, and grilled split king prawns are a great share for two people. Highly recommend "The Gatherer" limited edition beer from local Stone & Wood brewery.

Customer service was amazing, they made us feel special on an important night for my partner and I. This was followed up by some of the most amazing food we’ve eaten. Huge thanks to everyone at the balcony. Ps: order the tempura oysters!

We went as a group of 4 for Sunday brunch. As it is very popular I would recommend reserving a table if you want to sit on the balcony. The food was good but not great the vegitarian dishes could use some work.

Really lovely venue with a great atmosphere. Had some of the best oysters I’ve had in a while, great Bloody Mary’s, anchovies were beautiful too. King crab and lettuce tacos and crumbed fish tacos were a bit on the bland side and didn’t really measure up compared to the other stuff. We found service to be a bit disjointed — 3 different waitstaff coming up every few moments to take orders/check in. Would order with one then another would come to take our order moments later, then the other, so we were constantly being interrupted to say “we already ordered with your colleague” because they weren’t communicating with one another. Meant at times when we were deciding on a next dish we barely got a chance to look at the menu again before another staffer, then another, then another, interrupting us and rushing us to order. Then at the end when I went to pay, the one that was pushiest of them all even solicited us for a tip. Kind of rubs you the wrong way when service staff don’t focus on giving good service and then feel daring enough to suggest you tip. I feel if some of these kinks can be ironed out it would really be a top notch venue. It was almost there.

A hipster's paradise, charmingly decorated and the Oyster Happy Hour on Wednesdays (book ahead) for $1.50 each were fresh and more-ish (so my oyster-loving friend told me)... However. The drinks are cheap in quality but not in price - even for happy hour. And while there are plenty of servers, few are actually good. Although the wine is decent. Have tried the spiced cauliflower popcorn, the fish taco, the duck fat chips and the salt and pepper squid. Another review described the food as below par pub food. I would agree. The duck fat chips came with aioli - picture attached. No that's not snot but potentially a dried globule of aioli from some other person's meal. On the plus side, when I asked for a new tub of sauce, I got one that looked a lot better and the waiter was friendly and prompt. And the squid was good. Do I recommend this place? If you've never been before, it's worth visiting. But would I go back? Hmmm. If feeling like oysters and wine and can visit during happy hour, yes. Otherwise, probably not. Especially when you know that Jonson's is a 5 minute walk down the road - and their food is delicious, their drinks are quality and their service is gold...

Description

Meters back from legendary main beach, Balcony Bar & Oyster Co sits perched high above the hustle and bustle of Byron Bays busy streets. This heritage listed building is reminiscent of a seaside beach house. The signature wrap around deck captures the setting sun and is the perfect place to tuck into some freshly shucked oysters with an icy cold beer or a glass or rose. Executive Chef Sean Connolly has prepared a menu reflecting his signature style of cooking; simple, approachable and where possible on the bone or in the shell, allowing the produce to speak for itself. Balcony Bar & Oyster Co. exudes a neighbourhood spot where you can drop by anytime for a drink with friends and a few oysters or small plates.
