Tokyo Bird

226-228 Commonwealth Street Shop 2, Enter from Belmore Lane, Corner of Commonwealth Street NaN, Sydney

A great little community Japanese yakitori bar (a rarity in Sydney) run a team of passionate, friendly bar members. Bartender Yoshi Onishi can assist with the creation any Japanese-esque cocktails, using everything from Calpis to Japanese whiskies. The yakitori offerings are also aplenty, school prawns are great, so is lotus chips and giblets (if you love offals).

Not bad, the clam pot was a bit salty

Botanic House
4.1
/ 464

1 Mrs Macquaries Rd Royal Botanic Garden 2000, Sydney

For being the only cafe in the botanic gardens, this place is a bit disappointing. It is very expensive and doesnt have many options to choose from.

Chat Thai Gateway

1 Macquarie Pl L05, Gateway Shopping Centre 2000, Sydney

One of the better Chat Thais. Not as crammed but feels pricier.

Ichi-ban Boshi
3.7
/ 571

500 George St Shop 8 lower ground, The Galeries 2000, Sydney

While not the tastiest ramen around, certainly excellent value for money. Can be a bit noisy and during peak they want to turn the table over quickly so not the best for lingering. Service is fast once you are seated. Try the iced green tea cappuccino.

Ipoh town On York
4.0
/ 446

83 York St 2000, Sydney

I got a takeaway Beef Rendang one morning, before they had started serving food (so I was obviously happy with the service after they accommodated my request). The rendang was decent. Not the best I've ever had, but pretty good. From the outside the decor looks like any food court-style place. Not really where you'd go for fine dining, but it did look nice and clean.

Tasty sushi at good value. Recommend the grilled salmon hand roll.

The Ternary
4.5
/ 303

100 Murray St Darling Harbour 2009, Sydney

Very poor service, came there for coffee and dessert, we received the coffee after about 15 minutes, but the dessert took over an hour and we had to ask about it. This restaurant is in the Novotel where we are staying, the breakfast is buffet style and pretty generic, food is decent.

Suminoya

Level Ground 1 Hosking Pl 2000, Sydney

Great food, and you get braziers to grill it on, great atmosphere, ideal for a group of people

Malacca Straits on Broadway

66 Mountain St 2007, Sydney

malaysian eatery with the generic menu. cheap, fast, no chit chat service

Kindness Cafe
4.8
/ 247

248 Palmer Street Shop 6, Republic 2 Court Yard 2010, Sydney

I followed a recommendation last week and took my omnivore boyfriend to Kindness Cafe on Palmer Street tonight. I had the best time!!! They are a vegetarian/vegan restaurant with Thai style food, all organic and the best service. We had roti, curry puffs, corn fritters, fried tofu and tofu cakes. Then an amazing warm crumbly tofu and spicy green apple salad, tom kha soup and a red curry. She gave us dessert on the house! It was a sago and taro with coconut milk and flaky coconut on top. Everything was served in such a kind, peaceful and beautiful way; even the ice cubes were in the shape of little flowers! I was so excited to be there and the owner De was so excited to have us, she hugged us and thanked us for coming. After we had the roti dipping sauce, my omni boyfriend said he prefers the taste of the vegan one to the one with beef he ate last week and that he'd come back. I am so so so happy to have found this place and encourage everyone to come give it a try!
