Cafe Newtown
4.1
/ 189

329 King St, Newtown

came for brunch the other day. I used to live around the corner but never came here. But what was standout was the service; it was almost going to rain and I'd asked the wait staff to get me a table inside and while I waited with my coffee for mates; she promptly came and helped me relocate + moved menus+table settings. Food was decent enough - decent hollandaise; and they accomodated the special orders easily enough. will be back.

Love the $6.50 Pad Thai lunch on weekends - goes great with a hangover :-)

Great service and food. Cocktails are amazing and the atmosphere is spot on.

Miyama Japanese Kitchen Newtown
4.1
/ 168

87 King St 2042, Newtown

I was a bit reluctant to try this Japanese place as I had a limited budget (student life!), but upon seeing the menu, I sat down and ordered a giner pork and rice dish, which came with a miso soup for starter. The soup was better than I expected, as I am not usually a huge fan of miso, but it was "free", so I couldn't turn it down. The pork and rice were extremely good, with lashing of chilli to make you pant (luckily you get free water), and an intense ginger flavour to round it off. The salad garnish was also served with some strips of yellow picked (stuff), which was very Wagamama in style. The one dish came to $9ish, and this was in the evening. They also have a lunch time special with $7 meals, which was also really impressive, having had the Katsu fish and rice. I would totally recommend Miyama to anyone in Newtown.

El Jannah Express
3.8
/ 210

156-158 King St, Newtown

I was Order Number 2 on their first day of opening and was not disappointed. Living up to expectations - the chicken is great- tasty and everyone loves some MOIST meat. How can you go wrong when 1/2 a chook, chips and drink is only $12.90?! Bargain! Friendly service and glad that it has finally opened in Newtown - yallah!

The Midnight Special
4.5
/ 124

44 Enmore Road 2042, Newtown

Dark, great sours and good atmosphere. This small bar is decidedly blackish with a fun sanfran dive bar feel - no gimmicks. Booths at the back -2x sits about 6-8 people. Like it a lot

Mexican cantina meets Sydney small bar. Amazing vegan food - small plates, sharing plates and tacos. We had the buffalo wings which are just to die for, plus a a couple of taco plates to share (the duck and the Portobello mushrooms).

A light pizza crust in a unique square shape perfectly priced! Worth a stop in when your feeling peckish.

Mother Yen

587 King St 2042, Newtown

Delicious authentic Thai food and good sized portions too. We will definitely be back.

Woolworths
3.5
/ 221

21-23 Erskineville Rd, Newtown

The Woollies that isn't a Woollies. Even though their signature green apple logo is out the front - Woolworths don't list this store as one of theirs. Regardless - convenient place to shop. It's like a micro-concept Woolworths - but with a barista.

Cuckoo
3.9
/ 159

201 Missenden Rd, Newtown

Miss peaches is southern food on the top floor of the old marly bar. Food gets a pass for not being Thai/froyo/jap amongst the cluster on king street. Thought the food we had was good and loved the blackened fish. I know its basically hashbrowns but I really enjoyed the tater tots. The dip/catchup had some spice. Waitresses are super friendly. A+ servics

Klub Satellite
4.2
/ 127

8/80 Wilson St, Newtown

Food was really nice (definitely above average, with fresh ingredients and care put in every dish), and the decor and atmosphere great. The staff seemed nice enough, especially the guy making coffee with the hat, but it's a pity it took excessively long to get anything we ordered. Also, the staff seemed to be all over the shop with things not working or missing. Maybe they need to hire another person, or get on top of fixing everything. I had the impression they had only just opened (due to things not running smoothly -freezer not working, run out of glasses etc) but apparently they have been open for years. Give it a go, we surely go back if we're not in a rush!

Thirsty Bird Newtown
4.5
/ 102

226 King St, Newtown

I absolutely love the fried chicken here. Looking for authentic buttermilk finger-lickin’ good southern fried chicken? Then you gotta come here y’all. I have been here twice and the spicy fried chicken blew my pants off.
