WHET Cafe Bar Restaurant

We went to Whet for dinner New Years eve to only find out on arrival that the menu has changed from the website and new owners had recently taken over. The new chef made the decision to remove a number of the past most recommended dishes; that was the start of our disappointing experience. It only got worse as what was served by the delightful wait staff (cant fault the FOH service team) was by far the worse meal i have eaten in a very long time, we could have eaten better at a food court, but paid high end prices. Key issue from my perspective was that the chef saturated all the food in a very sloppy sauce and we found the quality of the beef and seafood poor. Hopefully the quality has improved from New Years Eve but given i was really looking forward to experiencing Whet it was a massive disappointment.

Best restaurant in Cape Trib. Friendly yet professional and so good we ate here twice. Their pizzas have a wonderfully light, airy crust and are made with quality toppings. We also enjoyed the Greek salad, vegetable lasagna and barramundi. If you like calamari, WHET’s is the best we’ve ever had anywhere in our travels. We enjoyed everything about the place, with a special shoutout to Aleccia, who took great care of us. Highly recommend!

Best place on the Cape for service, food and location. We kinda stumbled across this place after looking at a few other options in the area and glad we did. Their Seafood stir fry was a stand out especially the grilled tuna..yummy!

We went there, seems to be a nice place but it was empty at that time - off season. The food menu is quite nice but not much gluten free options though.

Great cafe for lunch, great ambience and friendly service. The foods we had were quite good. I had the the vegetarian and chicken curry. The veggie curry was delish but the chicken curry was a little bit too salty for me😉. But, it’s still quite tasty.

A few seconds down the road from the famed Dubuji Boardwalk is the perfect reward and resolution to a full day of walking in the rain and/or expecting wild animals to pop up. The entrance is a beautiful, romantically lit enclosed stroll in the rainforest. The restaurant itself is quite large, but during the off season there may only be a few tables occupied by patrons. Perfect for a secluded ambience. Out on the deck you’re immersed in peaceful, wild rainforest vibes. Service was 10/10. Incredibly nice and thoughtful server who goes above and beyond. My companion ordered the chicken parmigiana and had his eyes closed, sighing in ecstasy for most of the dinner. As good as it gets for him. Greek salad was perfect. Bread starter with melted cheese, garlic and herbs was so tasty. (Definitely get it with all three). My seafood pasta was amazing in every way except the noodles were cooked past al dente. The seafood was tender, succulent, fresh, cooked to perfection. The sauce was also very flavorful and there was lots of it. We cleared every single plate. Our beer and wine were great. They had many wine bottles on display. Would like to try a bottle with a group of friends here one day if I’m ever back in Daintree. Chef was able to package dessert (chocolate moose) for takeaway and the presentation was still beautiful. We had chocolate mousse the next day and it was delicious. Everything about this restaurant was excellent.

Service was very slow and the menu was very limited. 3 out of 3 of us were not happy with our meals. The waiter offered us a free cake because of the slow service and that was not good either. The waiter could have used some help. I thought he was alone the whole time we were there then saw a woman setting tables as we were leaving. Very poor collaboration among them. Hopefully they were just having a bad day.

Food was nice but a bit overpriced in my opinion.

Healthy and gluten free options available including Buddha bowls, raw/vegan/gluten free slices, as well as "pub food" - burgers and fish n chips. Friendly staff, good service. Nice location surrounded by greenery.
