The Grounds of the City

I've used this place more than its used me. Sure, it ain't cheap, but it's been completely consistent over many visits, and many years. Tonight the food was as on point as a champion surfer in a barrel. The staff were super cheeky and fun, and knew which side of the tray the drinks go on. On other visits the coffee and pastries have been great. Need a place in the city where you'll get quality at a quality price? Here'll do fine.

I love the ambience from The Grounds of The City. The venue transforms you back to the old Parisian day, with vintage pieces of furniture, jazzy music, yellow lightbulbs, and the drink display. One can’t walk past and ignore this wonderful aesthetic. The cafe is so popular that it left many diners disappointed without a booking. The staff are lovely and efficient. The coffee and cakes are great. However, I think the food is very average, with small serving, and expensive price. I’m happy to pay to relax here with a drink or dessert and the ambience. But not for the savoury items.

This is my second visit to The Grounds and it was fully booked on a Monday lunch, which made it very buzzy. The hostess at the front desk was very friendly and accommodating as were the staff that served us during our meal. Our dishes were delivered promptly with an appropriate break between, as requested. We were delighted to find that they supplied a lovely cake for my friend's birthday which was the reason for our lunch. Great atmosphere and decor - a real surprise find in the centre of the city.

The grounds of the city is very nice restaurant. It would be the best time to go at lunch with a beautiful old fashioned styled cafe it has a great atmosphere with beautiful stuff and nice food! It is great for a quick coffee or homemade lemonade!

Came in on Saturday for breakfast and was recommended the crab omelette and the pastrami toast. The most amazing breakfast we have had. The host at the door was so great with how she handled the large queue at the door. For such a busy restaurant, the efforts to bring in the large crowds was very professional. Staff provided quality service. We see why this place attracts so many customers. Great job to the team. Definitely will be returning for the food and the experience.

Nice place for having brunch or lunch. A lil bit expensive but it deserves. I recommend burger for lunch. If you are looking for yummy place with good vibe, this place would be suit! But i recommend you guys to make booking before day before to be seated standard.

Convenient and good takeaway lunch spot. There is variety to choose from. Fresh salad and add protein eg beef, crumbed chicken or poached fish. Otherwise, choose from a variety of sandwiches. Haven’t tried cakes here, so not in a position to make any comments.

Great venue with cool atmosphere and decor. Good selection of tasty desserts. The mains are a little small, aren't particularly mind blowing and everything feels a tad overpriced, but overall a good dining experience.

I just ordered hot mocha, but you gave me. “Do it yourself mocha”. So so sweet, you cant even taste the coffee in it. It is so disappointing. The Grounds in the City Town Hall. Not to mention burnt sour dough. Can I give you a rating negative! A truly food without love.
