Barracks Street 6000, Perth
I used to come to quite often to Taka as a student, the meals were cheap, hot and reasonable. Over the years the standard dropped off to the point I never got a hot meal. After 4 years I decided to revisit the place with some peer pressure, after ordering a Katsu Curry my pager was vibrating not 5 seconds after paying and the meal was on the pass. Not a good sign. As I thought It was cold but oddly only 1 piece of chicken could be seen on the rice. I took it back and asked if it was meant to be this way, the girl asked the older cook to take a look at it. He proceeded to stick his entire hand into the pool of sauce to fish out 3 soggy piece of katsu. They then asked me if that was satisfactory. Do not go to this place, they have no standards, they don't care that the food is terrible and just look at you like some animal feeding at a trough.
I love TAKA, its hearty and honestly prepared foods, plus not posh atmosphere. No. 6 is my favorite dish. I usually add lots of chili sauce and chili powder on the chicken! Chicken is always right out of pot, crunchy outside and juicy inside. Cabbage salad is always crispy, which is because they sliced it very thin and soaked it in icy water. Waitresses are all ordinary, nice and friendly girls. The one in Shafto Lane has closed. I hope this one will open forever! I will go to support it for sure!!
Been going here since 2006. Amazing food and great value.
Taka, the first place I ever tried Japanese back in the early 90s when it was underground in Hay St. Delicious as ever, tempura was great, as were the udon noodles. Taka is a Perth institution.
Very professional individual who satisfied my query more than enough. A credit to his team.
Taka has simple menu but very delicious and affordable. Their service was quick, friendly and attentive. Food are always served hot and the quality is always yum. Cleanliness, it was fine but never better as the area is small and some pathways are narrow especially going to the toilet. Speaking of their toilet, they are maintained in terms of cleanliness, it looks old though but it's something that a customer can wish one have. There were slight different on the amount of sauce in some dishes though that can be improved.
Good food, decently priced. Quite tasty not really authentic Japanese but good for what it is
Katsu chicken is an easy winner. Crispy chicken lots of sauces (chilli, mayo, soy, bbq) miso and rice. They've also got tea while you wait but that will not be long because service is super fast. Their udon is also great on the side. Recommended as a quick city joint that is not super expensive.
Oldie but goodie. Their karaage curry is the best
Had the ramen loved it they have tea there in a urn which was nice as well everything is flavourful and really affordable friend got a large katsu chicken that was like under ten dollars he loved it
