Lovely food
For a textbook example of how to make a medium density block’s ground floor concrete restaurant look and feel organic, head to New Acton and look up Mocan & Green Grout. Working with the concrete floors and the rusty weathering steel exterior, the interior uses trailing greenery and repurposed wood to create a dystopian terrarium. In combination with the cool winter light, and green wine bottle pendant lights, the plants and organic materials give the room an earthy glow. Tucking into nooks and crannies created by the disorderly wooden shelving gives you a perception of warmth and coziness that usually is elusive in this type of development. I feel warmly towards Mocan & Green Grout even before I wrap my cold hands around a well-made cappuccino ($4) and a strong flat white ($4.50). From the short breakfast menu, baked eggs with chickpeas and chèvre ($18) is a warming, tomato-based skillet of food, best eaten smeared over the accompanying seeded sourdough. The same fluffy goats’ cheese is heaped onto unoxidised smashed avocado arranged over the same kind of toast for their small but tasty avocado and chèvre ($14). Being surrounded by beautiful design helped make this breakfast better than the sum of its parts.
Great cafe, out of the main rush and with a wonderful bohemian style. Lots of green and places to sit outside. Kitchen out in the open, great menu selections and excellent coffee. Service was quick and friendly. One of those places where you can sit, eat, drink and talk for hours.
I keep going back here, time and time again and am never disappointed. I actually love the current setup of order at window before you go inside and sit down.
Always reliable, interesting food, small cosy venue, terrific staff, good service.
Really nice aesthetic and location. Coffee was good, food was simple and tasty. A bit expensive for the size, however. I had the Bircher which was nice, but not completely filling.
Very good quality of breakfast and smooth coffee, the portions are a bit small in compare with the price.
An amazing bacon and egg roll which was much better then some in the area. The only thing that stopped it from being perfect was the sauce on it. Served with a variety of different cutlery and a figure of a cat this place was interesting, but in the way you’d expect a good fun restaurant to be.
Terrible service David. I asked for a latte and received a cup of froth, which happens when you don’t let the milk settle and when I asked for more mill, they were rude and offensive and instead remade a terrible coffee full of froth again. One shouldn’t feel scared to ask for something poor to be adequate.
Friendly staff, great food and coffee. Lots of casual outdoor seating areas.
