my husband and I were in rose bay for the morning and decided to drop into Jesse's cafe to have a bagel. seemed like the place had good reviews, so we took a chance. i am a native new yorker and was excited to have bagels in AU! we ordered the shashuka and a bagel sandwich, and when my bagel sandwich came, they had given me the wrong type of bagel. I asked if they could replace the bagel, and they were very confused. It became apparent that neither the waitress or the waiter knew much english and did not understand the issue nor were very motivated to correct the issue. they just stood there staring blankly at me. I got up and showed them the bagel I had ordered and finally they said they would remake it. my husband's order came in the meantime. while I was waiting, I also overheard another table get their order and tell the same waiter that it was the wrong type of bread. they had ordered sourdough and had gotten a bagel. after a few minutes of trying to explain to the waiter whom didn't understand and made no effort to try, the woman got fed up and said she'd just keep the meal. 20 minutes later, as my husband was close to finishing his meal, we checked again on my bagel sandwich. I saw the waiter go to the kitchen and ask about the order and then the cook start to make my sandwich at that moment. how frustrating! the sandwich was very simple, i could have made it in 5 minutes myself! we decided to cancel the order after having waited so long. also, after having taken a bite of my husband's bagel, it was dry and a bit stale, nothing like the fresh, warm, fluffy bagels you would expect so i didn't feel like I was missing out. even worse was when we cancelled the order, they made no explanation or apology for the issue. when we paid, there was no discount or customer service you'd expect when mistakes were made. i think it was the owner at the counter, who saw we were clearly not happy, and he too didn't say anything to us, just happily took our money. a pretty poor experience, not sure why this place gets such good ratings. maybe it is the takeaway bakery items that keeps it going. my suggestion is not to eat in and maybe try a takeaway bagel first to see if you like it and can deal with the awful customer service and no smiles when you walk in.

I was working for around a month in there... I know how everything worked in there and I can say that there was no safety measures. It's a disgusting place.

I know about Jesse’s bakery after I have tried their bread bought at Coles. Since then, my hubby and I are their fans of their bakery. Really love to dine at their cafe in the further!

Fabulous breakfast Particularly enjoyed the vegan breakfast,corn fritters and the bowl of Açai with bananas and granola Didn’t have time to try everything else!!
