Istana Restaurant

My all time favourite Malaysian restaurant in Sydney, only issue is it is a bit far from us, but we would drive 30 mins just for the delicious food! Quality of food is consistently high, with fresh ingredients and great portion size. The Hainan chicken is to die for - the meat is cooked to perfection and the various condiments are just on point, did I mention the amazing chilli sauce with lime juice?? Can't find it anywhere else in Sydney!

The Hainan chicken, chicken rice and vegetables were delicious and I would definately come here again. If you like durian the ice cream is really worth getting. The service was above average.

Remember to bring cash. You'll get 5% discount off the bill if you pay cash. The fish head noddle soup is yummy and the portion is good to feed an army!

One of the best Malaysian restaurant ever. Hainan chicken rice is awesome but every dish they cook here is worth trying.

Mr Lee is an incredible host/manager/owner, as well as his amazing staff. The food is superb. I have been coming here for years and the food just gets better. The Istana King Prawns with coconut rice is to die for and worth coming for this dish alone. I'll keep coming back and so will my family!

Food was great although prices are steeper than usual. They are known for their hainanese chicken, wan tan hor and hokkien mee. The istana special menu is good too! Will definitely be visiting again soon.

We went there for the first time and felt that the quality of dishes didn’t stack up to the $$$. The flavours were pretty average. The waitress was promoting more expensive Istana labelled dishes, lucky we didn’t go for those. Though they claim special, there is nothing special other than dishes are much more expensive than similar and more popular Malaysian restaurants. At the end the staff also said 5% discount for cash but charged 2.5% extra fir credit card payment. No upmarket place charges extra for credit card - sort of ripoff..

Very disappointed with this restaurant. I ordered a 4ppl set dinner tonight, there should be a soup and fruit platter included in the set. When I asked for the soup in the middle of my dinner they said there at no longer soup and fruit platter but the price remains the same. If they don’t provide the soup and fruit platter, they should have cross it out and this is misleading and unacceptable. I have been there for over 30 years this is like a fraud. I will never go back again!

Ordered uber eats through them... took 1.5 hours to get delivered to us which is 10 minutes away... rang them to find out what was happening... could not even understand the person on the phone because of their thick accent... all I understood was that they were saying that they were waiting for uber eats to pick up... as it turned out, uber eats had already been advised earlier to pick up but the restaurant made a mistake and stuffed up and the order was not ready... So Uber eats had to come back later on... it would be nice if the owner or the person on the phone was at least honest about it..never again... food was veyr average... asked for no carrots due to allergen but guess what? Carrots were in there! Never again... they obviously don't pay attention to any detail... why bother...

Extremely dissapointing food. Hainese chicken was cold, satay chicken sauce didnt has any taste of peanut sauce and was very thin. Roti canai was not flaky amd half cooked layers. When asked for detail invoice he said i will give you tax invoice and then he gave me one receipt with 1 line dinner and total amount. Very disappointing service and food. Will never visit again.
