233 Swanston Street Opposite Chinatown, CBD 3000, Melbourne
Walking from the corner of Little Bourke to Swanston St, you can smell the goodness of fried chicken, distinctive star anise aroma (could be five spice). Smelled so good, decided to try it. Chicken alone is $9, fried fresh, had to wait 10-15mins. So crispy, tender, juicy, and not too flavourful - could've marinated it longer. It's bland. Thought it was boneless, it's not. Thought it was big, it's not that big. It's a chicken breast cut in half, with the bones intact. And that half was cut in half to make it thinner, then fried. Thought I was eating a whole chicken breast, but it's just half chicken breast. Just went to see what they hype was all about, honestly, for $9 you can get more from KFC. It's not ridiculously oversized. The paper packet IS ridiculously oversized. In my opinion, it's ridiculously overpriced. Sorry.
Soooooo awesome... Great staff.. Awesome Chicken 🎉🎉🎉... Love you♥️♥️♥️
Inconsistent with the quality of food as well as the amount given. Sometimes you get a full cup and sometimes 3/4 full.
Oh my goodness, this is THE best chicken I’ve tasted in my whole entire life. My husband gets the huge sized schnitzel with Chilli and I get the salt and pepper chicken bites and it’s SO moreish there simply are no words to describe the deliciousness of it :) omg YUM YUM YUMMY!!!!!!! Taiwanese street food? Beautiful!!!!!!!!!
Great tasting food, but if you're going there for dinner prepare for a wait. It's just a tiny stall more than a restaurant so there's no place to sit, just grab your food and go. Don't trust the handles of the boxes, they rip way too easily and look out with the Hot Star Chicken if you've never had it before. It's about 80% edible chicken but the last corner is just bones.
WARNING- this fried chicken is literally the size of your head! Hot Star is Taiwan's answer to KFC. The piece of chicken is flattened to an inch of its life, crumbed, deep fried and seasoned to your liking. It's pretty damn tasty and well priced. Each chicken is cooked fresh to order which doesn't make this 'fast food' - especially if there is a line up. You know this place is good when the line up is as long as it is. It's my guilty pleasure when I need a fried chicken fix. Sides are okay, nothing to write home about, but it's all about the hot star chicken.
Normally I like your fried chicken and today on a rainy afternoon I craving for the taste again and decided to order. There’s only one staff member around 2.30pm but including me only 4 people were waiting and I am the last one at this point of time. At first I wanna order the side with sweet potatoes and drink but the lady gave me sweet potatoes only without asking the drink. Though the chicken was still decent size, she only gave me less than half cup of sweet potato, which is totally over priced for 4.9 dollars.
Big chicken here, take about 10 minutes to make
It was nice, took awhile to be made to order though
Love this place we have tried hot star in Sydney as well and this swanston st shop is as good, big size chicken with different flavours to choose from I prefer this than kfc
