Hobson's Gate Bar & Brassiere

Went out to Currambine Bar & Bistro last night for a birthday meal for my son-in-law. We've had many meals there before and it's usually our go to place with two young kids in tow. Four adults and two kids eating out so not a large party. Last night was unfortunately not the best. Drinks were made but two of them tasted a bit funny - turns out that the lemon had run out of the taps and one was basically fizzy water and the other was just lime and bitters. That was rectified reasonably quickly. Ordered mains. They took a while to come. My roast lamb while tasty was lukewarm - I ate it though. Daughter's parmi was very tepid though everything else on the plate was piping hot. She tried to eat it but wasn't able. Called over a waiter and explained what was happening. He brought her a free drink to compensate. We decided not to have it heated up as it had taken so long for them to come out already. Husband had the pork belly and scallops and the crackling couldn't be cut as it was just rubbery - no crack in the crackling!! Ordered desserts. After a reasonable wait a waitress comes out - "I'm really sorry but we don't have any Raffaello deserts at the moment." We said "Well that's fine as we ordered Ferraro Rocher." 2 x Ferraro Rocher desserts, 2 x sticky date puddings had been ordered and lost somewhere in the mist. Waitress ran off and amended the docket. Other waitress comes out with THREE sticky date puddings. Yes we said, we have two. She said "No you have three". Ummmm we know what we ordered. Next thing, the 2 Ferraro Rocher desserts come out. My husband and I had ordered our desserts separately - my raspberry & apple pie came out. No pavlova for my husband. Waiting ... waiting .... Finally flagged down a different waitress again and asked where it was. She went to ask and came back full of apologies. They are very busy as there's a function on as well. The chef who does the salads also does the desserts and he's swamped. Ummmm how come 5 out of the 6 desserts came then? We went up to the manager after and explained how disappointing we had found the meals. She kept saying to me "What do you want us to do?" I said that I really wasn't sure as I'd never had so many things go wrong in a meal and what would she suggest? She said "So really, apart from the chicken being cold which should never happen, it really was just a series of hiccups." I said well yes it was. But it was every single course. And you are the one who put the wrong thing for the desserts. Also, we're up here ready to leave and the lovely girl is putting my husbands pavlova in a takeaway container as we've waited 15 minutes, we've all finished our desserts and there still wasn't a sign of his coming!" In the end I said maybe a voucher of some description would help. She looked at me and said that this register couldn't do that. Took my name and number and said she'd speak to someone and call me today. I'm still waiting.

Great service and food

Filo chicken and mushrooms - mashed potatoes stone cold and filo microwaved to death! And did I really need to find a long black hair underneath my chips on the Seafood platter? Really - the standards have gone down hill at a rapid speed! Totally dissapointed and the staff uncaring!

Fun and cheery service. Great food, massive portions. The owner The "Queen" just as friendly n welcoming.

Great place. Wasn't noisy and could hear your self talk. Service was so quick when ordering and great food. I had Wok Chicken stirfry

Beautiful atmosphere and the food was tasty. The food preparation was eye catching and it went hand in hand with the taste. Portions were big, the lamb crusted with egg plant was impressive so was the chicken schnitzel with mushroom sauce and fish and chips was fresh. They had a great selection of food and the staff were so welcoming. Will be coming back for sure 👍🏾

Great place with friendly staff and brilliant owner. Large dining area with great food portions, Live Music & Relaxing atmosphere. Just a tad less sauce on the pulled pork burger I would like to be able to hold my burger bun not squish it through my fingers.

I love the currambine bar and bistro and we have been going there for years. Normally 5 star all the time. Tonight was a different story! Our entries come out and our mains were 2 minutes later. I don't know what the rush was we were trying to have a nice relaxing end to the week. Instead we just rushed through dinner. I hope next time it's different.

Hidden behind main street makes this a lovely local but spacious place to eat and drink. Typical pub food but excellent service and friendly atmosphere. Great music on some nights.

Massive portions of high quality food. The hardest part is choosing what to have. Staff are always really friendly and helpful every time we visit. Even the security guard opened the door for us when we arrived.
