Part 1( 1st visit) ===================================== After spending some time at walking around this area to look for something typical Korean dishes for dinner, I ended up with stopping in front of this Chez Kimchi Korean restaurant. 3 complementary side dishes were pretty simple, but less salty, fresh, and tasty - these can be refilled for free in several times if needed, pls ask staffs. For main meals, I usually try to taste ordinary dishes first if it is not sure how good other popular meals(ie; Korean fried chickens) are in this restaurant for my first visit. So I ordered typical Jae-Yuk-Bo-Gum meal(Stir fried Spicy marinated pork with a bowl of steamed rice) and Yuk-Gye-Jang meal(spicy beef soup with a bowl of steamed rice). I found that two dishes were pretty reasonable and tasty, especially not that salty, tender pork meat, and well beef broth soup, but not that spicy. So I was able to finish them all. Part 2(2nd visit) ====================================== There were limited restaurants opened during the Christmas day in a downtown of Canberra, it was already checked that this Korea restaurant would open according one of staffs from the last visit. As I already verified tastes of food in this restaurant last time, there was no doubt in ordering other dishes for hungry people. - Half of soy fried chicken - Half of sweet and spicy chicken - Noodle(Udon) - Spicy fish roe soup with a steamed rice Soy chicken was tasty but it has a bit spicy pepper flavour, while spicy & sweet chicken was well prepared and fit for beers. Spicy fish row soup is perfect, not salty not too spicy. Tips: 10% of public extra surcharge for a public holiday plus another 1.5% of credit surcharge. Highly recommended!

I didn’t understand the menu too much but ordered the fried chicken and a seafood omelette, chicken was amazing but the omelette lacked flavor and seafood for the matter, the service was flat and couldn’t get any direction from the wait staff as to what to order for a first time diner.

I ordered a takeout with this restaurant. I ordered seafood tofu soup with seafood pancakes. The seafood tofu soup was very bland and taste bad. I ordered this soup before multiple times and it seems like they forgot to put chilli peppers this time as the soup is suppose to be orange red color like in the picture. What I received was a soup that isn’t red and isn’t spicy at all, it taste like the water that comes with tofu packet whenever you buy a tofu from the asian grocery stores. Try imagine that combined with seafood. It is truly disgusting. The seafood pancake was soggy when I received it, perhaps because of the steam. Normally other restaurants poke holes to let steam out or cut a small hole in the container lid so that the pancakes dont get soggy. I fail to pick up any slices of the pancakes at all without it falling apart because it’s too soggy. I personally wouldn’t order takeout with the restaurant again. Perhaps they think takeaway orders can be refunded and may serve better food at the restaurant.

We ordered a serve of beef tartare along with a spicy seafood noodle, turned out the beef tartare was served frozen on the plate. I don't normally see restaurant serve beef tartare frozen which it shouldn't be. We then ask the manager that why was the beef frozen? He replied " It is for a better texture, yeah texture" My friend and I were stunned and had no words. How are you suppose to eat the beef if it is still frozen, or in a way would you eat a sashimi or a sashimi nigiri sushi with a piece of frozen fish on it? Kitchen and the restaurant should have a better knowledge of how the foods or ingredients supposed to be served and prepared. Always a big fans of Chez Kimchi in civic, but after what happened from my recent visit, I will think twice before I would actually go in for meal. huge disappointment.
