Located on one of Melbourne CBD's hidden laneways, Cafe Lafayette was a cafe serving Japanese-influenced modern brunch food with a restaurant-vibe. The dishes on the menu were quite unique, and we ordered their famous Egg Nest (okonomiyaki, fried leek slices, yuzu mayo, 62.5c egg), Panko eggplant, and the rainbow latte. I was a big fan of both of the dishes; the egg nest came with a generous serving of crispy leek slices which complemented the okonomiyaki’s texture really well, and the panko crumbed eggplant had an added flavour from the bolognese side. Coffee was ok, service was pretty quick and friendly. Overall, I was impressed!

One of my favourite place to eat lunch in Melbourne City. The place is so cute and intimate. Presentation of the meals are very immaculate. Taste good too :) One thing that I need to bring up here they need to upgrade their services. I’ve found it a little bit too slow . Don’t forget to order their coffees :)

A great little cafe tucked away in a nondescript little alley that evidently takes great care and detail in every photogenic dish they serve. Book in advance or be prepared to wait in line for a long while. However it is worth it. Their popular fried chicken and waffles is deservedly so, chicken is delicious, not greasy or oily; their matcha French toast colourfully decorated. Beef bolognaise pie with cheesy mash with shredded pastry beautifully presented. However its richness means probably best to share than eat all on its own. Would suggest they remove unnecessary tomato sauce and provide lightly toasted white baguette slices to better balance flavours instead. Affogado delicious, only fault is that drinking it is over too quickly.

It is quite rare to see Asian fusion brunch in Melbourne CBD. So, when we found our about this place, we decided to give it a go. We really enjoyed their dishes. The soba noodles with scallops were really tasty. The chicken waffle was quite big, crispy, and juicy. These two dishes were their most popular ones. The place is usually packed so it's best to book first.

Easter Sunday is a day to celebrate and that's exactly why we chose this place. The reviews were pretty good but also their multicolored rainbow late art. This quirky place specializes in modern Australian brunch with heavy influence of Japanese cuisine. It definitely does instagram worthy plating, and does not compromise on the taste and quality. The rainbow latte not just looked pretty but tasted quite good...And so was the chai latte. Their must try Bird Nest and Beef Bolognese were quite good to taste (but not unique as described on the menu) , yet was more about presentation. Expensive in our opinion but once in a while, it's fine to splurge on something as dramatic and glamorous as this one. Attendants are quite engaging and friendly, and plenty of options for vegans.

Amazing lunch spot in the city. I had to start with the rainbow latte and it was so pretty I almost didn’t want to drink it and mess it up. We ordered the beef pie and the octopus fritters. The beef pie was the stand out dish. Wow! Such an interesting take on beef pie... the mince and cauliflower mash filling was super tasty and was topped with a crispy melt in the mouth pastry and mozzarella cheese. So 👏 delicious 👏. Really lovely cafe in the heart of the CBD. Stunning decor, friendly staff and a really relaxed setting with great tunes. We will be back!

Good vibe, nice interior design. the bunny chairs are very adorable along the bar. Love the colourful rainbow latte and the foods are nice and creative. Totally inlove with the chicken waffle and lobster hotdog. I would recommend this over the other Japanese style brunch in the city for sure! Great place to go, will def. come back and try other dishes in the future.

Had brunch @cafelafayettemelb I can’t get over this place 💕 The vibe and the menu options are absolutely amazing. Located in a laneway in the city, such a hidden gem. They have a Japanese inspired menu. Such a unique menu with so many delicious options and everything looked so pretty. We absolutely loved it all 😍 Matcha French toast was so good loved the combo of the cream, matcha with berries. How pretty is the rainbow latte 💕 My favourite rainbow cake which is a Japanese dessert, was the Tiffany blue the mint flavour. We had the following: 💕Matcha French Toast 💕Tamago & Scollops 💕Fried Chicken Bao 💕Rainbow Latte 💕Matcha Latte 💕Raindrop Cake - Tokyo Express, Angel Kiss, Matcha Lover & Tiffany

A hidden café down a "Melbournesque" lane serving Japanese fusion brunch and interesting drinks at "fashionable" prices. Let's get it out of the way, I am not enamored by the rainbow latte - good coffee but more an Instagram gimmick. The velvet (beetroot) latte is very light with a hint of malt. The waffle and fried chicken is a success for me - wrapping the squid ink waffle around the crispy, moist chicken, dipping into the cheese and honey - it taste salty and sweet, and quite addictive. The unagi hotdog is very messy to eat - the bun is cut through, so you can't hold it like a hot dog and eat it. Using knife and fork to cut up pieces of bun, unagi, tamagoyaki (egg) and lettuce is just not the same. I have to say, there is not much unagi there. And the tamagoyaki is very sweet. However the bun (brioche-like) is very good. And the hot chips is fresh, crispy and creamy.
