We thought going by photos, menu and the prices that this was fine dining - it is not fine dining. Brightly lit, a dull buzzing noise from the lights above our table and no table cloths make for a neat casual dinner. I had the tomahawk steak ($120) which sounds like a lot but you get two sides so would easily do two people for a nice dinner. Nobody’s steak on our table was cooked perfectly but all were okay, the service was not polished; had to wait a long time for the table to be cleared while staff milled around, the waitress serving us had a very limited idea of what drinks were available, was not particularly attentive but was friendly and helpful when asked. The wine list is extensive, the food came fairly quickly and the service was friendly.
If you’re chasing a great steak in Canberra, I would not recommend Black Fire but if you’re happy with “okay” then you won’t be disappointed.
This was my second trip to Black Fire and both experiences have been similar.
