Rose of Australia
4.3
/ 628

1 Swanson St 2043, Sydney

Went to the Rose for their Monster Ribs and Steak night (Tuesday to Thursday). Was pleased to be presented with a huge rack of ribs that was so big, it had to be served on a pizza plate. While not the most amazing ribs I've ever had, it was flavourful, saucy and not too dry. Great value though, at $25 for a full rack. The fries are some of the best in the inner west. Diamond cut and beer battered. Also of note, they have a 2 for 1 cocktail happy hour between 6pm and 7pm on weeknights. Bargain!

Had the 2 good eggs breakfast this morning. Asked for crispy bacon and finally a cafe n chef that knows how to serve crispy bacon! Food was awesome!! Coffee..... Beans used are not my fave. Was busy with no seats left inside so had to sit out in the cold. Overall this place has potential. Service was friendly and cheery

Shift Eatery

Surry Hills NSW 2010 Shop 4 241 Commonwealth St 2010, Sydney

The coffee was smooth and strong, absolutely delicious. I had the Steve (Reuben's brother) and it was very filling and tasty. We had a tasting plate of sweets and I couldn't believe that they were vegan. The lemon tart was my favourite. Others had the chia Bircher and the Big Bad Bowl and they looked amazing.

Cyren Bar Grill Seafood

Harbourside Darling Harbour Shop 197 on the Waterfront 2000, Sydney

Great location with amazing views of the skyline backdrop at Darling Harbour. Food was pretty good and well presented, served by friendly staff. I had the seafood basket for $34 which had scallops, prawns, fish and calamari with a small side of fries. Would definitely try this place again. I came midweek so had no problem getting a table with a good view.

The Hero of Waterloo Hotel
4.5
/ 464

81 Lower Fort St 2000, Sydney

Great music on Saturday nights. The building is very cool (all stone and said to have been built by convict labor). The place seems to have a lot of history and a great friendly atmosphere. Beware it may close pretty early (Saturday at 11:30pm the night I went). (They have ghost tours of the tunnels under the bar, but this review is for the bar itself)

Gelato Messina Circular Quay

Chaco Ramen

238 Crown St Darlinghurst 2010, Sydney

*Kuta... Kuta* Asked if I wanted to go to a new yakitori restaurant in Sydney, the answer was of course "YES"! Chaco Bar, only open for 2 months, is an awesome little venue near Pocket Bar in Darlinghurst. Given the breadth of the menu, you could call it a mix of a yakitori bar, an izakaya and (eventually) a sake bar. But as it is currently BYO, I brought my own bottle of sake. Having super friendly staff certainly helps in a venue like this, and following the various recommendations for chefs skewers and a few other bits and pieces, we set to devouring everything and anything put in front of us. Highlights were the kokoro (hearts), nankotsu (cartilage), and the pork belly. All were succulent and juicy, cooked perfectly and seasoned well. The tsukune (not balls, but a long finger of chicken mince) were also tasty, dipping in a slow cooked egg, but some things perhaps need some ironing out. The kawa (skin) was tasty, but unfortunately a little chewy rather than crispy, but that was probably just unlucky, and the tattaki was more of a modern take on the traditional tuna dish which didn't really work for me. At about $45/pp (not including the bottle of sake I brought), it was not a cheap night out, but it was the best yakitori I've had in Sydney for a long long time. Certainly a place to keep an eye on but be warned, booking are essential!

The Rook Rooftop
4.1
/ 605

56-58 York St Level R 2000, Sydney

Nicely hidden off York St, The Rook feels slightly more exclusive than your usual CBD bar. A quick elevator ride to the roof and we found the bar packed on a Thursday night with the post-work crowd. Friendly bar staff helped us to pass 30 mins waiting for a table, where we chose wagyu burgers and ordered more beers. After a short wait we were brought a bowl of onion rings on the house, plus an apology for the delay which was a nice touch. The food followed shortly after and was delicious. Only downside is that it's incredibly noisy, so perhaps not the best place for a quiet date or catch up.
