Kingsley's Chicken
4.0
/ 364

U 1 1 Rae St 2617, Canberra

The four star rating is for their food, of which their chips, gravy and burgers are great. The store is in need of a serious revamp. It's been the same for over 15 years.

Eightysix
4.3
/ 288

Corner of Eloura & Lonsdale Street, Mode 3 Building, Braddon 2601, Canberra

Confident food and service that delivered. If you come here expecting hustle and bustle, share plates and very friendly staff who aren't afraid to interact and share their strong opinions with you then you will highly enjoy it. Not good for a quietour private intimate dinner but if you go with it and with some friends, makes for a great night out. For party of >3 ask for bench seats or outdoor. They sat our party of 4 initially on a table in the middle of the room that was way too small for the sharing dishes (barely fit the plates, cutlery and glasses as it were!). Food comes at different times and random order but all delicious. Enjoyed the fresh gnocchi, popular (for good reason!) fried chicken and fabulous desserts (we tried them all). Will definitely come back!

Assembly
4.1
/ 329

11 Lonsdale St 2612, Canberra

First time here. Looks popular. Food pics to follow. Lots of good beer choices on tap. Place is getting very busy around 12.30 - but hey - it's Canberra and it's a new place! Food was tasty and fresh. I had the jerk chicken burger and someone else had the chicken schnitty. The burger was cooked perfectly. Nice touch of spice and the chicken was super crispy on the outside - just how it should be. The schnitty looked good and I was told it was tasty too. There's a few things on the menu worth looking into - I'm planning on heading back with some friends and testing out the lamb shoulder. See you there.

Monster Kitchen and Bar
3.8
/ 402

Nishi Apartments 25 Edinburgh Ave 2601, Canberra

At one of the entrances to Monster, a restaurant/bar in Canberra, there's a row of bicycles. For a brief second I wondered if they might have been the bicycles used by the staff to get to and from the restaurant, though I quickly concluded they were probably there "for effect". "It's very hipster", my friend Patrick commented. The other thing that's very "hipster" (the word's so over-used I'm not really sure what it means anymore) was one of the bar snacks we had leading to our main meals: a jaffle/toasted sandwich that contained yabby. It was very tasty, and was a really terrific accompaniment to a glass of pinot gris, as we chatted, catching up on each other's lives. As I was already planning to come down for work, I decided to make weekend of it, go to some of the galleries, and catch up with some friends. Patrick advised "Monster" was one of the hip places to eat in Canberra right now, and this evening's meal clearly showed why. Like a lot of places these days, Monster's evening session is dominated by sharing plates. After the jaffle, we continued with the cured kingfish, some pork-belly, and some very toasty smoked eggplant. We also squeezed in some pannacotta. Four glasses of wine and five meals set us back $126 which wasn't bad at all. We probably should have just bought a bottle of wine. In Sydney, the same meal probably would have set us back an extra $30 or $40. The presentation was good for all. The tastes were also good, especially the kingfish which we both rated highly. The staff were also good: friendly, smiling and attentive without being in your face. The design of the restaurant's also really interesting. Although there are lots of shared tables, they're designed (with lots of diagonal lines) in such a way that you don't feel like you're seated at the same table as other people. I also really like the wood panelling that dominates one of the entrances.

Pleasant food, good service, expensive prices. Very pleasant but not outstanding.

The East Kitchen
4.8
/ 198

28 Challis St Shop 2 2602, Canberra

I've been eating at the East Kitchen for years and finally thought I should pop up a review! The food is always fabulous and the friendly cheery service is terrific. Is there a better quality, more reliable or better value one around? No there is not! I highly recommend a visit today. Ohhhh, and you'll never find a better lunch box deal! Includes spring roll and two curry puffs. WAHOO.

Common Grounds Gowrie Cafe

Bittersweet
4.1
/ 302

27 Eyre St Cusack Centre 2604, Canberra

Great coffee - flat white was a good temperature (not crazy hot), smooth and rich. Nice outdoor seating and awesome eggs benny with salmon!

Walt & Burley
3.4
/ 520

70/17 Eastlakes Parade Kingston 2604, Canberra

I could not fault Walt and Burley, even if I wanted to. The atmosphere, the food and the service were extremely on point. There were 6 of us and we all enjoyed our meals. I had the 1/2 rack and it was divine, especially for the price! When you think of Kingston, you usually check your bank account before you head out for food... wasn't needed! When we arrived they had a gent playing live music (who was extremely skilled; playing the harmonica and guitar at the same time). We had a perfect view of the sunset and the Roulettes doing their aerobatic thing. Perfect location, clean and comfortable. The thing that blew me away the most was the service. The staff were friendly and extremely accommodating; I was able to get chips instead of slaw with my ribs for no extra cost. One of us couldn't finish our meal and the staff had no worries about bringing us a container to transport the leftovers home for a sneaky midnight snack. The water on the table was never empty, they were always there will a full bottle when it started to get low. Towards the end of the meal one of the staff came up and asked how everything was, as you can guess we were all smiles. To top it all off, when we were heading for the door, one came up to us with a big smile and wished us a pleasant evening, it was a great note to leave on. I hope the staff at Walt and Burley read this, because we want you to know that you made our night. Thank you, we'll be back!

Little Oink
4.2
/ 275

22 Cook Pl 2614, Canberra

This little cafe has a whole lot of perfectly understated class. Just walk in the door, and the big world stays outside. The guys and girls there are all naturals. The food is everything the menu promises, the live music is local and oozing with talent. I love this place.
