Zen Chinese Restaurant

We have been here many times over the years as we live around the corner. It is comfortable with tables spaced far apart because it is almost never busy. The last time we were here was Saturday 7pm 27/03/2021 and there were only 2 waiting staff and 3 other tables. The food is reasonably priced and reliably good. While not blow your mind good, it is good enough for a quick satisfying family meal when too lazy to cook. As a Chinese who grew up on Chinese food and Chinese restaurants, I would bring my Australian friends to eat here, but not my Chinese guests. This time we ordered sizzling mongolian beef (nice, but a tad too much hoisin sauce), salt and pepper squid (very nice, the best dish of the night, and the crispy wantan skin accompaniment is a good idea), chicken with honey and black pepper (chicken was well velveted and glossy but too much honey making it too sweet) and mixed vegetables (nicely done, but no smokey wok aroma at all).

We understand that some dishes need to be booked before going there. However, it was so disappointing that other dishes (which are on the normal menu) are also not available. Never come back :(

This restaurant is very nastalgic to my heart, have been here many many times when I was little with my parents. Must say back then was a pretty good Chinese restaurant in Adelaide. Have not been for many yrs but always drive by and see not alot of customer! After I think maybe 5+ yrs not dinning here, we decided to revisit with our children. Unfortunately food and service both can not compare to the memories!! Food taste all very simular and service was very slow! Some dish we order was not available eg! Crispy chicken on bone and beef belly hot pot! Disappointing. Sometimes good memories really shou old just keep it as a memory! Don't think we will ever return again!

The best Chinese food i have eat in Adelaide especially the lemon chicken and salt tofu. the food are very tasty also the ingredient is super fresh, love this restaurant can't wait to go again.

Extremely satisfied with the yummy takeaway food. Dim sims and dipping sauce were great, as was special fried rice and pork ribs in plum sauce. Friendly customer service and pre warned of lengthy wait (due to Valentine's Day). Would definitely go back to Zen Chinese Restaurant. Thank you for a fantabulous experience 🤗

A shadow of it's former self. The food was bland and key staple Chinese dishes weren't available.

Best Chinese cuisine in Magill area. Food is super fresh cooked to perfection and flavours are sensational. Staff are super friendly. You’ll leave very satisfied

Good flavour. This place make me homesick. You can try really good rice noddle here. yunnan style
