Good food. A bit soul-less; we didn't feel particularly valued as customers. And boiled egg on the Caesar Salad? That's just a salad with anchovies & egg...👎

It was fine. The venue itself is quite nice and the staff were quite friendly. They took my mates allergies really seriously, which I was impressed by. The food selection was incredible, but as is often the case when there are lots of options, the quality didn't match. It wasn't bad - I would eat there again, but with so many options around town, I wouldn't rush back. The beer options were terrible, which may not matter to everyone, but I would have bumped this up a star had there been better beers available.

Came to Ballarat on that day and looking for a place for dinner.... eventually we settled on Golden City. The waitress and the manager was helpful in getting us a table and were very helpful and friendly with our query especially we know that they needed the table in an hour. To cut the story short he helped us out and we can eat a bit longer without being rushed. Thanks heaps. The only issue we had for giving it 5 star is the food.... and it was something easily they could fix.... do not overcooked my porterhouse steak and chips. My steak came out medium to well ... chips overdone too. My partner ordered Atlantic Salmon.... and guess what.... overcooked as well. If not because of our meal being overdone... it would have been a perfect night out for us. Nonetheless, thanks for the service and hope to try your food again next time.

Slow to bring out kids meals. We hadn't finished eating entrees and the mains were bought out. It took staff over an hour to clear half of the plates and the rest were still on the table when we left.

I had the steak special with garlic butter. It was amazing and cooked exactly how I like it. Chips could have done with a bit more salt but I dipped them into garlic butter instead. Won a raffle prize with the group I had dinner with.

Great pub in the heart of Ballarat. Quick and friendly service, great food and nice ambience. The mystery beer on tap was a cracking choice too!

Description

The Golden City Hotel, formally known as Geecees, was built in 1856 and originally named the Adelphi Hotel. Since it's first opening the hotel has seen many changes including the transformation to a cafe-bar in December 1996. Overlooking the beautiful tree lined main street of Ballarat, Golden City is renowned for having one of the largest restaurants hosting around 200 tables. We no longer see ourselves as a traditional hotel, but have moved with the times to provide a comfortable, safe environment where persons of any age can enjoy a coffee, wine or beer together with good affordable food available all day. The hotel offers two beautiful event spaces of varying sizes and design and caters for anything from intimate and private gatherings to large celebrations.
