Without a doubt one of my all time top 5 favourite restaurants to exist- and I’m not shy to driving hours or travelling interstate for good food. The best restaurant in Robina hands down and possibly the most underrated in the entire Gold Coast. This humble joint boasts so much flavour, passion and culture in each item on the menu- and the best part? NOTHING disappoints. I cannot fault a single item on the menu I’ve ever ordered here, which is a testament to the love, care and passion they have towards making good food here.
If you like meat- you’re spoiled for choice with a large selection from fish to all kinds of meat. If you’re vegetarian, they also have jackfruit meat. You can take literally anyone to Taboon and they will be blown away by their meal here. The food is so fresh and well balanced- the right ratio of generous meat/protein servings with fresh vegetables and rice/couscous served with so much flavour. The sauces and dips here are done right as well- if you love toum you’ll find that delicious cloudy garlic sauce here. Taboon boasts a pretty impressive dips menu with every dip just as flavoursome and unique as the next, my personal favourite being the Persian eggplant dip.
A must order is their lamb shank tajine- slow cooked to perfection and practically melts off the bone onto a pillow of the most perfectly spiced cous cous. Next to impress is their skewer platter- you get lamb, chicken and beef skewers served with toum and a delicious ginger jam. The falafels included are pillowy and soft on the inside like they do it in Egypt, not dry or hard. They’re piping hot but crunchy on the outside and oh so delectable! Genuinely the only good falafels I’ve had in Australia so far (other than the homemade fava bean falafels my friend’s mother makes!). The Zaatar pita bread will get you hooked too, and it’s delicious to dip in the residual juices of the meat skewers- and did I mention how tenderly cooked and juicy the skewers are? The Lamb skewers are the standout btw for any lamb fans.
TLDR Do yourself a favour and go eat at Taboon, you’ll understand why everyone in Robina is OBSESSED. I eat here quite often and it’s always busy but the service is always friendly, the air joyous and the food consistently 10/10. There’s just no place better when you want a healthy, well balanced meal that is AS tasty as it looks and makes you feel amazing.
PS get their desserts too the middle eastern trifle is a dessert I cannot go without ordering. So yum.
