We had a quick lunch on recent Saturday at this place. We ordered a few dishes i.e. <i>pad kee mao</i> stir-fried rice noodle, <i>pho Lao</i> rice noodle soup and mango salad. You can order your dishes with your preferred level of spiciness. The stir-fried noodle had less spicy level than we expected but still taste quite good. The mango salad was quite spicy, but less sour and more sweet than we expected. The best order of the day was the rice noodle soup with beef (<i>pho Lao</i>). The taste of the soup were nice and a nice alternative to Vietnam-style <i>pho</i> soup. Ambience and customer services are reasonable for a casual restaurant in a suburb like Canley Height. Prices on menu are competitive with similar style restaurants in the area. You can pay by cash or credit cards.

Upon my recent disappointment in the longest running Lao restaurant in Fairfield, we decided to try this place as it has been opened for a few years now. I use to drive pass this place on a regular basis, but have always dismissed going to it because there was only one place that I would go to for Laos. The staff here are as friendly as it gets in any of the restaurants in Canley Heights, I was actually shocked to find that ox tongue was $19 when looking at the menu. It’s like they think they’re the only ones who sell ox tongue in the area. Or maybe their ox tongue is so good they could justify the 19 dollar charge. Either way we didn’t get it, it was too much of a gamble for a first time in a restaurant that none of the locals rave about. The first test to any Lao restaurant has to be the papaya salad, Lao style of course! Also got duck eggs, shrimp fried rice and tiger tears (marinated bbq pork). Not that I’m complaining, but they charge $2 for a pot of tea. This must be the only restaurant on Canley Vale Road that charges for standard jasmine tea. After ordering I needed to pee, so I asked if they had a toilet, I got a short tour of the kitchen as I had to walk through it to get to the back outside the restaurant to where the toilet was. I was glad to see that the kitchen looked pretty decent, it wasn’t smelly or super old looking. I also got to see my duck eggs being freshly cooked in boiling water on one of the woks as I walked passed. The papaya salad came out first, it looked great, but the papaya was shredded way too thickly. It didn’t soak all the juices and burst with sweet, salty and sour flavours when chewing it in your mouth like a normal papaya salad should. The fried rice came next, it was a generous serving and tasted ok. Not great, just ok, quite ordinarily just ok. The duck eggs came out after the rice, which was a bit annoying, as duck eggs should come out first so you can eat it and get rid of the shells before the main stuff comes out. And then finally the tiger tears which was rather disappointing. Tiger tears are suppose to have a layer of fat that is seared to give it a nice crisp and almost crunch like texture. This one did not have any fat as well as being over cooked, it was very chewy and the fish sauce that comes with it wasn’t very good either. Lucky we didn’t order the ox tongue and saved ourselves the heartache of a $19 let down. So now we know why none of the locals rave about this place! And now the search for a good Lao restaurant will continue!

Best dried beef (a little sweet, and not tough), with sticky rice. I also love the soft shelled crab. The Nam Khao is also great (crunchy rice salad) The service is always amazing. My very favourite Laos/Thai restaurant.

Ordered beef and tomato salad and Pad see ew combination.... Salad was on the sweeter side.. Good decent portions. Unfortunately had a bad experience I found a 3-4cm fried WORM 🐛 in my dish towards the end of it My friend and I felt sick They apologized and said that the chef had washed the vegetables twice Obviously I don't understand how that big sized worm could be missed but sorry guys we won't be coming back due to this unfortunate experience we've had They given us that dish for free as expected.

Went there for business meeting and work on computer , food average and a bit over priced for the tiny serves. Gave a one star because they cleared the plates as soon as we finished eating but refused to wipe food off the table till we left. When my client said you should treat customers like kings and queens the owners shouted back.." you will never be a king only a queen maybe". Other staff belittled her and demanded she quickly pay and leave. They stubbornly reminded us we need to tell them to clean the table and we don't want customers like you. The place was almost empty. We are not surprised. Gordon Ramsey please pay them a visit.

Overrated restaurant in Canley Heights. Compares to other Thai/Laos restaurants, this is below average and pricier dishes. Not recommend this restaurant at all. The fried fish were overcooked almost inedible, the sauces for the sausages is very salty and the quails are burnt. This restaurant failed in many different level. It's a disappointment

I had dinner here last night. Service was good. The waiter was very helpful in suggesting the best dishes. Took around 5 minutes for the first meal to come. The fish and the ox tongue are must have dishes. Superb experience.

Authentic Laotian food served quickly. A good range of spicy food designed for the fussy locals. Be aware most of the food will be too spicy for kids. Good service and good value for money.

Why wait in the crowd at Holy Basil when just down the way is this amazing treat of a restaurant. This is my favourite Thai and offers an authentic and fresh menu without being super overpriced .
