Heard so much about the Ekka that we had to give it a go after living in Brisbane for 3 years and it did not disappoint. Yes the food and rides and games are expensive BUT the evening show at the showgrounds was incredible and well worth the cost of the entry tickets! Need a minimum of 4 to 5 hours to enjoy the experience. Loads of activities to help you remember the importance of the role farmer's play in our survival on this planet!

If you are in Brisbane when Ekka is on, you need to visit. Great day out with lots of different shows and things to do. Wood cutters was great to watch and the evening shows with fireworks was excellent. Get to the main arena early for a decent seat for the night show though.

Went on a Tuesday by taking the public holiday then instead (lucky work was flexible). Heard horror stories about getting sick at the Ekka and the hordes of people so that was trying to mitigate that, also went early in the morning. It was amazing when I arrived at 9am in the morning, the queues were all pretty empty and there was space to see and do stuff. First time at the Ekka in 3 years and it's definitely a good experience when there are not many people there. Loved the exhibitions of art, cookery and crafts. The quilting was quite quaint. The baby animal nursery was pretty cute as well. Lots and lots to see. Left at about 2pm when the hordes started descending and came back for Ekka Nites. Quite a good experience but you will have to get in early if you want good seats as the front rows get filled up really early and you can't see very well from the back rows. Next time, might bring a pair of binoculars as well. The tiny ponies were adorable.

We hadn’t been to the Ekka since we last took our son. So we went on our own now he has flown the coop. Our day at the Ekka was really great, we stayed from early afternoon till near the end and took the time to experience a lot of the things that make it what it is. It’s always really busy so expect large crowds and lots of moving slowly through peak parts of the day. I highly recommend a visit to those who are new to Brisbane and also to those who haven’t been in a while. It’s an excellent day out and as Brisbane as it gets. Loved it!

The Ekka is a fantastic event for pretty much any group of people... even if you're not in a group. Wouldn't go every year because it doesn't change that much, and can be quite expensive, but it is quite progressive. Food options have definitely improved markedly over the past couple of years. Animals are a staple though that provides continual enjoyment and frankly doesn't need to change.
