Customer service is terrible. Food and drink is lovely... (if you eventually managed to get in) Overall, do not recommend because I believe service accounts for a good time and despite the aesthetics there are so many better options available around the area instead.
Oh my gosh. Totally didn’t expect this place! I think the Pav cocktail would have to be one of the best cocktails I’ve ever had in my life! I love the native Australian theme. So many amazing cocktails to try, all professionally made. Looks like a small little bottle shop until you see the bar upstairs sign and it’s a huge classy bar with DJ and all. Very impressed.
I went last night with a group of friends and the service was terrible. I have been before ( a few months ago) and we had better treatment. The situations were: 1 - It took around 20 min for someone to come to our table to get our drinks order (Not even to be like "I'll be with you guys in 10 min to get tour drinks orders"); 2 - we order fries for the table (no salt) so I asked the waitress for some salt.... nothing. My friend and I were literally standing and waving our hands for 15 min to get someone attention. It took 2 other friends to go up directly to the waitress to ask them to come to our table with some salt. By the time the salt came, the fries were cold and hard :/ I'm not sure why, but our group felt extremely discriminated and ignored by the waitresses. Been busy doesn't justify the behavior, if that was the case then maybe you guys need more staff. I hope the service improves because its a beautiful venue. Also salt and pepper on the table is just a must you shouldn't wait 20 min for it. Cheers
Worst experience TWICE. The first time i went, it took 1 hour for my drinks to arrive after constantly checking up on them and being told they were on their way despite the waitress never checking. The second time I went, hoping for a better experience, I wasn't served for 40 minutes until a couple seated next to me had to call over a waitress to our section because we were being consistently ignored. I tried waving, standing and calling staff over but they were too interesting in gathering around the pos and serving bigger tables then the small ones. There are so many beautiful restaurants in Melbourne and I believe service should come first, so I would recommend going next door to Neptune bar as a much better night out/drinks! I do not recommend Galah unfortunately.
Great drinks and great food Remains as one of my fave places in Melbourne
This was the second time I've been here, the first time was great but this time around not so much. It was a Friday night about 7pm, the venue wasn't very busy with empty tables and couches. Service was shocking, was left waiting for a drink for 15min. Asked for a Hot Toddy - not available because they didn't have boiling water facilities - what? Are you not a bar/restaurant? Also had to wait a while for food. Ordered the 1/2 Dozen Oysters, Warm Green Salad and Kangaroo. Received the sale first which was delicious but would've been better served with the main Kangaroo. Oysters were after the salad and off - smelt and tasted unfresh, should've said something but didn't. Won't make that mistake again. Kangaroo came out much later than the salad and was cold. They also didn't have a dessert menu. Interesting different menu, but service was sub par.
What a shame. From the moment we entered we experienced an in un-inviting vibe. Booked 3 weeks out be seated in an upstairs corner that lacked service and lacked cheese on the $45 “cheese platter”. Asked to relocate but they couldn’t accomodate as tables stayed empty. Couldn’t wait to try this place and couldn’t wait to leave.
This place has potential by the bucket load but just falls short on the execution. Service was OK but not representative of the prices in the place and be warned if they start walking you to the 'crows nest', its a pretty forgotten part of the bar up there. Heaven forbid you ask to relocate, the bar will always be "fully booked", as you watch ample sized tables sit empty below. Be wary of the charcuterie board upsell, for $45 you get a dollar coin size wedge of cheese and some pickled veg, $4.50 maybe more appropriately priced.
I love this place. Knock out cocktails with an Aussie twist..welcoming staff. My local for a reason
Such a shame. The service was appalling. We were a table of five that likely wouldn't have been served the entire evening without kindly asking a waiter for service. Seated for two hours without asking our food order. Waiters and waitresses would carry one or two dirty glasses at a time and walk around without checking on their tables. They need to prioritise their sections. A beautiful venue let down by the service.
