1309 Melba Hwy, Yarra Glen
Mind blowing!
Quaint place lovely interiors. They have perfectly positioned tables for two by their gorgeous floor-to-ceiling windows. The staff are friendly and warm. Food is good and wines are really lovely. Very short menu like 1 fish 1 beef 1 veg and 1 chicken I think so if you have dietary restrictions it’s pretty much set on what you’ll eat. Servings were small, also with the wine. Recommend getting three courses if you love to eat. There is a lovely deck which would be great when the weather is nice. It seems to be connected or popular with groups as there were a fair bit of groups when we dined on a weekday lunch. A couple of coaster buses and a group conference I think.
10/10 cannot recommend this place enough! We've been to a few winery restaurants in the Yarra Valley and this is my current favourite - especially with very reasonable prices for their courses. The service, the interior decor, and of course, the food was perfect. The views from the floor-to-ceiling windows are also classic, beautiful winery vibes! I loved the entrees, especially the cured ocean trout with the crispy skin on top - what a combination of textures. The mains were both delicious - the duck was cooked perfectly, and the pork belly was so crispy but juicy (it’s so often that you get dry pork belly!). And dessert which is always my favourite was again delicious - the standout for me was the feta because it tasted like a creamy but light cheesecake.
Highly recommend the dry aged rib eye! Everything in the dish was delicious, except maybe the sauce which was a bit bland in my opinion. The grilled whole market fish was also really good, especially the sauce. The chicken ravioli pales in comparison to those two. Staff were lovely, good service.
It was really devastating to hear about the fire at Balgownie in 2020. So happy to see them renovated and with a brand-new restaurant – 1309! I really enjoyed the three course lunch meal we had, paired with the most delicious sparkling Shiraz red wine. The views are also spectacular too! If you’re looking for a winery to visit in the Yarra Valley, you’ve gotta visit Balgownie 😊
Great ambience and excellent service..Tried the smoked duck, sirloin steak and pork cutlets - great pairing with their estate Merlot Cabernet Franc. Finished with cheese platter for dessert .
Awesome modern Australian food with excellent wine pairings to match (especially if you also took the cellar door wine tasting prior, to try out their different varietals in stock). An excellent experience all round
Disappointed with the service and the food, I order carpaccio as an entree, nice flavour but it was the size of an appetiser and they never brought bread on the table, main was the lamb shoulder it came with fennel and carot which where very soggy ( dressed maybe too early ) and lost the crispy textures of this 2 vegetable, my friend had the steak asked for medium to well but it was too burned and dry, the waiters never refilled the water and we had to ask for the drink that they forgot. The place is nice and have a beautiful view over the valley but you can have a better meal in a upper class hotel
Very poor experience for the cost. Staff were lovely but very poorly trained, unable to provide any details /Insights into the wines on offer and they were all Balgownie wines! Service was rushed, had to ask for a gap in courses as noticed other diners meals came as soon as previous course plates cleared. Food was OK, not great for price you pay. At no point was wine or water glasses topped up. For a restaurant that is charging $45 -$55 a main, I would not go back....find a local pub instead!
Beautiful place, amazing view, very nice service, lovely staff, unbelievable creative food.
