Pad Thai Chai Yo

1B , Rosalyn Street Potts Point 0, Sydney

When I first moved to Sydney, I called Kings Cross home. I lived in a lodge off the strip and so became very familiar with the local eateries. Pad thai quickly became a twice weekly event because as the name would suggest, they do GREAT pad thai! For about $12 you can get a large steaming plate of fresh wonderfully flavoursome noodles that is well balanced with the obligatory sweet, salty, acidic flavours as any good pad thai should be. I wouldn't exactly call Pad Thai a restaurant, but more a hawkers stall cum hole in the wall takeout. The decor leaves a lot to be desired, but the Pad Thai is worth the visually unappealing interior. You could always try sitting outside on the plastic table and chairs as Pad Thai is a stone throw from one of the busiest and most highly entertaining intersections in the cross, so there is never a dull moment. This is inner city value dining at its red-light finest.

We have been eating here for years - great food, friendly staff and a wonderful authentic atmosphere - no matter how crowded the service and food never falters - we have had two large birthday functions up stairs - excellent and had rave reviews from family and friends - and great prices ! Thai On Wok

193 Glebe Point Rd 2037, Sydney

Extremely tasty and unbeatably fresh. It is surprisingly fast as it is often full and has many take away orders. I particularly enjoyed the spring rolls and green chicken curry. It is also cooked in an open kitchen which I found quite entertaining!

Maggie's Thai
4.5
/ 131

75 Erskineville Rd 2043, Sydney

Excellent food - the specials are always worth trying for something a little bit different. We're local, so we have been eating here (well, usually take-away as we have kids and there isn't much seating) for many years, but I still usually manage to find something new to try. The salads are particularly delicious, especially the papaya and soft-shell crab. Prices seem to have gone up a bit over the years but still well worth it.

Doytao Thai

Cheap and cheerful local takeaway - delicious mainstream Thai dishes ... be warned : delivery can be a slow during peak periods & probably best to pick up.

26 Playfair St The Rocks Square 2000, Sydney

Delightfully cheap, delicious meals. Fast, efficient service and a lovely environ. Enjoy with a small acoustic act in this precinct.

Chubby Cheeks

/ 103

437 Oxford Street 2021, Sydney

Dishes here use excellent ingredients and a classic melange of Thai spices with pan-asian cooking techniques to deliver innovation without westernisation. Truly a local gem and surprisingly missing in recommendations for the area. The wine list is short but includes a strong selection of local and international wines. I didn't have cocktails here but they looked nice. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. If I had to pick fault, it would be the over-generous size of dishes on the tasting menu. Also there seems to be a lack of options for vegetarians on the tasting menu itself, but the waiting staff were happy to substitute things when asked and without additional cost.

Charles Thai

45 King St, Newtown 2042, Sydney

Great food, good service. This place Openned a few months ago, and is competing with the other Thai places on the block with high quality. Try their Banana Flower salad with duck. It's one of their specials, and is excellent.
