Hey there, to answer this question for future references. You can take a dog on a lead, there are a few restrictions as well, dogs cannot go into buildings, on the harbour cruise and you have to pick up after them, otherwise you just need to let a staff member know so they can assist you.

Port Arthur is a lovely place to walk around. Take your time, stop often and look at the various old buildings and scenic views. Absorb the history. The staff are very helpful and prices in the gift shop and cafe are reasonable. Depending on when you go, the weather can vary from cold, wet, windy or hot. Can't change the weather.

You don't have to do tours if you don't want to, just pay the admission by itself.
