Great food and table service but Yamagen let me down with the seating arrangements. Booked well in advance to organise a nice table for a special occasion, was assured it several times but when the day came, we were just plonked in the middle, and when I complained, no valid reason was given. So why even bother asking for it? Other than that, food was excellent and Zoe's service was outstanding. We had the $120 set menu and sake, plating was lovely and food tasted good.

We went here for an anniversary dinner in April & it was absolutely amazing. Some of the best food we have ever eaten. We did the Omosake tasting menu with the wine pairing and every dish was an absolute treat. It’s a bit pricey but definitely worth it for a special occasion, and the staff are lovely. Definitely recommend!

This was some seriously good food. We opted for an omakase menu with a few extra additions, and it was the perfect amount of food. The dishes were nicely spaced, and we couldn’t fault a thing. I highly recommend the matched sake option!

The service was great. Presentation was nice, the plastic sauce bottle presented between two beautiful tacos killed the vibe a little bit. The halloumi sticks were the winner for me. I sat in the bar area which didn’t quite have same atmosphere as the formal seating area.

Absolutely the best food… wow wow wow!! Staff were lovely! But the food did come out at a slower pace than we expected.

I first came here in the early 90's for what was then an extraordinary traditional Japanese experience, superb traditional Japanese food, and an equally excellent level of courtesy and manners from all the staff. What we had tonight was enough to never go back. We booked for 5.30pm and told we "must" leave by 7pm as they were so busy with all the brainwashed new age devotees. We were rushed in and sat in what was basically a hallway with staff and customers zooming around us the whole time. We had ALL our dishes on the table in 30 minutes. We had 5 courses rushed out so fast that the table had nowhere to put the dishes as they all inevitably went stone cold. The staff seemed sooooo fixated on clearing dishes and glasses that it gave me indigestion. They were rushing so much that they were pouring still water into glasses of sparking mineral water, and removing dipping sauce before we had even finished that particular meal. The music what pumping and throbbing at a pace and volume more suitable for a nightclub or an all night rave. It was so unpleasant our 1 year got so stressed we had to keep taking her outside, and she and I both got a terrible headache. This place is now an overpriced hipster haven where the food is pseudo "modern" Japanese, and one of our dishes, the "tempura scampi" tasted and looked as uniform as a box of frozen fish from a supermarket fridge. This place sadly now has a very bad case of the hipster "Emperor's Clothes". All the 5 stars are just that. If you like overpriced rushed chaos with a nightclub atmosphere, then you'll love it - not for me anymore.

Now this was an awesome experience. I took my Son and Daughter in law there as he had just proposed to her that morning. The waiter, Rowan, was brilliant. His suggestions and catering to all of our tastes was outstanding. We will be back for more . 😊

We had the most fantastic evening with 2 young boys at an early sittiing. The staff were attentive and welcoming with Simon our waiter taking the time to explain the menu and chat with our boys througout the meal. The food was exemplary and as it was the choice of our Japanese food loving eldest for his birthday, it turned out to be the best we could have hoped for. A wonderful evening and I would recommend to young and old alike.
