Shop 23 Currambine Market Place 1244 Marmion Ave, Currambine
This was the first Indian cuisine we experienced 21 years ago when we arrived in Australia, when it was in Ocean Reef. The food was superb. Recently relocated to Currambine shopping centre, it is still as good, one if the best.
Food was nice, nothing special. Service was ok, again nothing to write home about. Star taken off for charging for papadums??? All Indian restaurants I have ever been to provide a plate on the table at no charge as a kind of welcome gesture....not here, they charge for them. Another star taken off for charging a credit card surcharge. That's a cost of doing business, you should not be passing this charge on to paying customers. Your menu prices are high enough to absorb this small cost. Plenty of better options in the northern suburbs for nice Indian food. Do your research and try those before coming to Shehnai Tandoori in Currambine.
This is my absolute favourite Indian! Recently moved from Beaumaris to this new location, we have been ordering from here for more than 15 years. We now even travel from the other side of Perth - itβs that delicious and authentic. Highly recommend!
Always very friendly and great food, a favourite for us and our friends. Very busy these days since they moved but I guess that shows how good it is.
I was so looking forward to experiencing this new Currambine Indian restaurant for a rare night out, having booked in advance. What a disappointment from the moment we walked in, to our awful little table, to the most appalling Indian food I have ever had. I ordered Butter Chicken, and was served a bright red, shiny, sweet curry full of clumps of chicken that was inedible. It doesn't resemble any Indian food I have ever had. When we arrived at 6pm, the staff advised we would have to vacate out table by 7:30pm. Well, no worries there.... we were gone, food uneaten by 6:30. Avoid. Shockingly bad food.
Really good service, very nice food, but the price is quite extraordinarily high for the serving size.
Had the most amazing experience there to celebrate my friends' birthday. 4 girls ordered Onion Bhaji, Butter Chicken, Rogan Gosht, Goan Fish curry, Palak Paneer, Garlic naan, Pilau rice, Kulfi ice cream and Gulab jamins. Not overly spicy and spice was perfectly complement each other. They use ghee oil and fresh garlic for the naan and cook in those special naan dome oven which tastes very different from other stores. With butter chicken, despite all the spice, you can still tell that they pan fried the chicken before cooking with the butter sauce. We purposely order another naan just to finish the all the sauces. Lamb was so tender, cottage cheese match so lovely with the spinach puree. The mints sacue goes well with the deep fried onion and you cant fee the oilness at all. The rice has so much fragrance with it too! Dessert is divine, the ice cream is not easily melt on the plate but your mouth, the gulab jamins dumpling was not overly sweet. I can still go on but let's stop here as the memory makes me hungry again haha. My friends are from Malaysia and they both commented that the food remind them so much of home at those Indian mamak stores. Although it's an hour drive from my home (SOR) to there, I have no hestiation to bring my friends there and recommend to others.
Absolutely brilliant lovely people and great food it was our first time there will definitely be back :)
Been coming to the Shehnai for years...before at Ocean Reef and now at Currambine. THE best Indian food around, never disappoints π Great menu, fabulous flavours, wonderful staff π Keep up the good work for many more years to come π
