A life saver as this place was open till 12am on a Wednesday. I arrived approximately at 10:30 pm and was warmly greeted and seated. The options in the menu are deep and the menu kept me busy for some time. I had the Jumbo nasi goring that I highly recommend simply for the balance in the heat. The satay chicken skewers were delicious and so was the fried egg and chicken. Portion was sufficient for two to share. I also had the chilly tiger prawns on skewers. This was dusted with a dry spice that make it mouth watering but for a dish worth 40 bucks 5 medium prawns made me want for more. The last dish on my table was squid sambhal petai. This had a strong 'dried fish' smell but tasted nothing like sea food. It pieces were coated with a thick batter and all I and my friend could taste was the batter. I would not recommend that dish and the review loses a star for that. Else it was a very satisfying meal with three dishes two satisfied hungry people and a spend of $110

We waited for an hour on a Friday afternoon after 5 to get in! The portion was decent, tasty food but I’d say quite overpriced for Malaysian food. We also have done the high tea and it’s average.

Extensive menu, with lots of greasy, salty and delicious nyonya Malaysian/Singapore cuisine. Recommend coming with a group so you can try lots of different things. The salted egg chicken wings are a great starter to share.

Food was good, however we found the black pepper Wagyu beef a bit salty, the vegetable with oyster sauce a bit sweet. Overall we did enjoyed the services n atmosphere.

One of the best Malaysian food I've had in Sydney! Prices are in the mid-high range (e.g. AUD15 char kuey teow, AUD15 Hainanese chicken rice, AUD8 cendol, etc.) Very enthusiastic chef taking good care of the needs and comments of her customers. Only been here twice, usually fully seated by 1230 on Saturdays. Will be coming back for more :)

I used to come here so often because the food is always amazing. But I have to say what keeps me from returning is how poorly they take in criticism or bad reviews especially on social media. Any customer's review, good or bad should be taken positively to improve service. Be proud with your work but have some humility knowing that there's always room for improvement in customer service. If a customer is saying they are not happy in reviews, ask them why and let them know, as a business you will work on this, ask them if they'd return to see how you can be better. Yes, you cannot please everyone, but having showing you tried, can shift the perspective customers have on you as a business.

We showed up with a group of 16 on a Monday night and they were able to seat us in ~15 minutes. Food was delicious. Especially liked the loh bak.

Description

Ho Jiak Haymarket is Sydney’s first Malaysian Nyonya grill house and is inspired by the homestyle and street food dishes that Head Chef Junda Khoo grew up cooking with his amah in the family kitchen. Feast on thick, spicy Laksa with chewy al dente egg noodles, rated one of the best in Sydney. Or embrace the Nyonya grill with a grilled tasting platter of lamb cutlets, chicken and seafood, complete with BBQ char lines and chilli sambal sauce. The ground floor of the two-story restaurant is inspired by the street Chef Khoo grew up on in Penang, Lebuh Ah Quee. Up on the first floor, the decor is styled like his grandma’s home, a place full of love and laughter. Welcome to Amah’s Kitchen…
