Frances Bay Drive 800, Darwin
The Calamari is Awesome. Crunchy crumb, tender, and the tubes are big and fat, very cheap at $5 a serve. Chips were nice too.
Fish , calamari and chip very fresh and hot. Very friendly staff.
Nice to grab a feed and sit on the wharf in the wet season to watch the rain roll in.
Fish & chips are always good but you need to know that your orders will consistent. Example, I stopped ordering potato cakes for a while as they were always under-cooked. Then we gave them another try and they were perfect for a while (apparently you need to 'blanche' the potatoes first - I'm no chef!) went back tonight and they were under-cooked again... and that stops me ordering again. I've been a customer here for over 10 years. If the food was consistent, I'd be a more regular customer. None of it is bad but they could be better.
Nice seafood. Reasonably priced. Friendly and quick service. The walk along the wharf was lovely.
My wife and I ate here in early June 2021, it was the toughest fish I have ever had, I have had more tender steak, not flakey at all. The 2 stars are for the chips, but a seafood shop needs to not serve severely over cooked fish.
Stopped in with the out of state rellies on a time crunch, got quick service, big serves, sat out at the back tables to eat. Everybody was happy! RECOMMEND!
Dangerously bad establishment. Prawns and scallops obviously fried frozen as batter huge and inside uncooked Food came in a pool of oil. No f#¢s given when I told casheir about the raw fish. She just shrugged her shoulders and said "yeah." I kept the remaining portion as evidence incase I die from botulism. Plenty of good places to get seafood. Avoid this place.
I was annoyed when on the phone it sounded like the lady told me seafood sticks were $2 but ended up being $2.50 and the serves of chips are to laugh at, see my images of what $6 worth of chips look like. I honestly have felt ripped off. But when I opened the pack and saw that beautiful piece of snapper...awesome. The fish was fresh and was battered well, hot but still crispy. The seafood sticks were good, if only a little on the soft side but had some crispy bits. The chips were above average for fish n chip stores but the amount was a super let down. If you thought $6 of chips could feed your family you’re wrong. This review wouldve been a 4 or 5. The chips definitely have affected my rating. If I had only bought the fish, it would be 5 stars easy. Edit: Went back again, the second trip was much better, got more chips with my purchase, calamari rings were excellent and the battered snapper was still awesome for the price. Possibly my new fish n chips shop. Updated review to 4 stars, thanks.
First day in Darwin. Late arvo hungry and needing some dinner. Looking out from the Ramada and there we see the fishy right at the wharf. Five minute walk and we are looking at all the classics. You can go wrong as long as you don't order the aioli (no taste) or jerky (just NO) the fish chips and other delights were top notch. The family and group deals were great value.
