Friendly and attentive staff. Food is cooked to perfection. Thoroughly impressed and would recommend this place.

Breizoz French Creperie

Cnr Gertrude & Brunswick St entry Gertrude St 0, Fitzroy

I come here almost every single time I visit Melbourne. Simple but tasty crêpes, and the staff are always friendly. Definitely recommended if you're in the city or around the inner northern suburbs.

Sir Charles

121 Johnston St 3065, Fitzroy

Coffee is very good. The breakfast menu is innovative but the food (which can take some time to be delivered) doesn't meet the expectation. It should be tastier and a little more plentiful at the price ($18 +). I can't recommend the breakfast.

The Everleigh Melbourne

Level 1/150-156 Gertrude St, Fitzroy

supremely classy and very much like a nyc establishment, the everleigh is a treat to visit. really great cocktail list and fab location on gertrude street!

Mile End Bagels

14-16 Johnston St 3065, Fitzroy

The bagels taste very good, very authentic. Stick with cream cheese fillings.

Builders Arms Hotel

my partner and i tried out the newest indoctrination into the andrew mcconnell conglomerate after passing a couple of times on the 86. one cold night a few weeks later, before moon under water had opened, we decided to give the builders arms bistro a red hot go. upon entering the establishment, the first thing that hit us was how unpub-ish it felt. where the front bar of a pub once stood, now felt like a sterile lobby with minimal space and seating. We approached the maitre d in the bistro to hopefully get a table as we hadn't booked. after giving our particulars we were told it would be about an hour for a table, so we headed back to the pubby-barry-thingy to have a beer. we ordered a couple of pints of cricketers arms to be told that they only have pots (no pints! in a pubby-barry-thingy!!). so we stood at the bar for the lack of seats/stools and scoffed at the size of our beers and how stark and sterile they've managed to make a once cosy fitzroy institution. after 30 minutes we were surprised to learn that a table was ready for us so we moved into the bistro. look, i am not going to go on about the food. it was delicious as expected from this group of restaurants. we shared smoked curd and clair de lune for starter, rib eye with broccoli salad and house chips for main, and chocolate prune pudding for desert. i couldn't fault it. what really disappointed me about this establishment is it's distinct lack of ambiance (and i strongly believe that the ambiance is equal to the food in importance). the down-lighting lends a very washed out vibe while the fit out and art work is ordinary and uniform. some candles on tables, or floor lamps in corners could soften the space and add warmth, too. i have heard here and there that what the owners wanted to achieve was a gastropub but they have missed the mark if this is the case (may i point you towards the eagle or marquess tavern in london for accurate representations of what gastropubs should be). it is a real shame that the builders arms hotel (pub) is gone and i can understand that for locals, it may feel like losing an old friend. it highlights the hits and misses of gentrification and how it can negatively impact on a given area. the builders arms hotel for me, is a miss.

Woolworths

243 Smith St, Fitzroy

Not the most dangerous spot for one to have a picnic.

Marquis of Lorne
4.4
/ 275

411 George St 3065, Fitzroy

Probably my favourite Melbourne pub. The food is a little hit and miss but the parma is always awesome. The place has a great vibe and the upstairs balcony and function room is fantastic. Stay away on Friday and Saturday nights when the bogans invade fitzroy. Unfortuntely, management has changed and while the place is still awesome, the staff are pretty horrible.

Union Club Hotel

164 Gore St 3065, Fitzroy

I had the best King Island eye fillet I have ever had in my life. Staff were awesome too, topped off a great night.

Tried a decent range of the menu over the last couple of weeks. Fresh and lovely. Raw cakes were amazing.

Stumbled across this place and enjoyed every second. Food and wine was great!

Yong Green Food

Amazingly rich flavoured vegetarian food. Very refreshing!

Sonido

69 Gertrude St 3065, Fitzroy

The most consistently good coffee within several suburbs. The food is also great.

Bimbo

376 Brunswick St 3065, Fitzroy

Get the potato and salmon pizza to make an awesome pizza sadwich. The chocolate inffused vodka is good, but the chilli was way too spicy or me. Also, eat the chocolate pizza, it's the best thing ever.

Rice Queen
4.0
/ 344

389 Brunswick St 3065, Fitzroy

I am not very 'trendy' but this place definitively is. And I enjoyed it. Beautiful decor, with really high ceiling giving a great feel of space to the place. The food consist of clever twists on many, well known, Asian dishes (Vietnamese, Thai, Malay etc). Very good size meal, fresh, zesty. You obvioulsy need to book if there are more than 2 of you (and I would still do so on a week end anyway). The crockery is original/unique/quirky, adding an extra layer to the 'twist'. The only downside is their coffee (not the worse but really not enjoyable at all). Good place for a night out with friends (of all ages and type).
