Ball & Chain Grill
4.2
/ 693

87 Salamanca Place 7000, Hobart

I've been here on a number of occasions and on a bad night you get an excellent steak. On a good night (and with their pepper sauce) you get something that cannot be easily described. One word of warning though - I'm now very, very cautious about ordering a steak in any other establishment (no matter what the quality) because it's just going to disappoint me now.

New Sydney Hotel
4.6
/ 524

87 Bathurst St 7000, Hobart

I could be biased, being a local who is at the New Sydney on a regular basis. I love the place. The staff are friendly and Al, the licensee, is one of my favourite people. Saturday sessions are fun and its great when we get interstate visitors who join in and sing some good Irish songs. The New Sydney supports local people doing their thing, whether it be philosophy at the pub, men and bubs, and the musicians. Eclectic and just a little eccentric. . . .that's the New Sydney.

Frank Restaurant and Bar
4.5
/ 501

1 Franklin Whrf 7000, Hobart

Very small portion sizes, so go as a group and share, you wont be satisfied if you're hungry. Very interesting food, it was delicious.

Lark Distillery Whisky Bar
4.6
/ 461

14 Davey St 7000, Hobart

The award winning Lark Distillery produces an Australian single malt whisky, proudly unique in character and style, crafted in small batches exclusively from pure Tasmanian ingredients, matured in small barrels, hand-bottled by whisky lovers in Tasmania, for whisky lovers world-wide. Lark Distillery was the first licensed distillery in Tasmania since 1839. It was established in 1992 to produce Australian malt whisky, rich in character with a big finish, using Tasmanian ingredients. Lark Distillery is a unique boutique Tasmanian owned distillery dedicated to maintaining its proven high quality malt whisky and other purely Tasmanian spirits. After reading the above from their web-page we decided to visit this interesting establishment on a sunny Friday evening. The bar was very busy with patrons drinking, talking and listening to the live, country-blue grass swing band. While outside on an expansive lawned area, with views across the harbour, an even larger number of people were eating local delicacies, such as Quail, wallaby and venison, also enjoying the extensive range of Whisky's, Brandy's, Spirits, Liqueurs, local Beers and Wines, being served. To accompany these, cheese boards, ploughman's lunches and various cakes are available. The building is an historical brick building with beamed ceilings, and with the use of corrugated iron around the bar, and full sized barrels used as tables and decorations the look and ambience are very Australian country, a memorable experience.

Kate's Berry Farm
4.3
/ 557

12 Addison St 7190, Swansea

I've been to Kate's Berry Farm several times, and enjoyed it every time. Great icecreams, and lots of other goodies too. Kate's lovely to talk with (if you can catch her!), and it's amazing to see what she has done there through her determination. Ignore those older reviews complaining that there were no berries - clearly those people aren't familiar with the concept of seasons (!!).... If you're not sure, just give them a call before heading there! It's definitely worth a visit :-)

Ross Bakery
4.4
/ 489

15 Church St 7209, Ross

Situated on the Main St of Ross, the Ross bakery Inn, a heritage building from the early 1800's which was a horse drawn carriage Stop. Accommodation is still available, with breakfast, catering for backpackers through to families. Along side the Inn is the Ross Village Bakery. The word from the locals is, "You must try their Pizza's" baked every Sat evening from 6pm to 8pm. Our timing was lunch Sunday, where we enjoyed a fresh made scallop pie, acompanied by a good size colorful salad, delightful. Then Coffee with their Signature Vanilla Slice, mouth watering. The range of fresh prepared award winning breads, pies, quiche, rolls, cakes etc are all very tempting, which is the reason this bakery is so popular. We ate in their covered court yard garden, ideal for families, as a playground is provided at the rear. In the front of this significant historical building, an attractive, purpose built Al Fresco area, with inside dining and a takeaway. The service was excellent, friendly and professional. We must return for the Sat night Pizza.

Bark Mill Tavern & Bakery
4.1
/ 580

96 Tasman Hwy 7190, Swansea

Bakery, Cafe, Bistro, Tavern, Situated Main highway Swansea, a very modern, light bright, spacious Cafe/bakery, Tavern. Out doors an open dedicated Al fresco area, playground, with ample parking. For food, drink, relaxing and bakery supplies, this bakery would be difficult to pass. The quality of breads, pastries, biscuits, buns, cakes, quiche, gourmet filled rolls etc, is as the locals would tell you, "The best on the East Coast". We throughly enjoyed both a scallop & currie, and a chunky steak Pie, freshly baked, accompanied by a great coffee. The coffee is, Mocopan Pasquade, winner coffee blend 2007, by a very good barista. On offer an extensive breakfast and lunch menu, with hot and cold drinks. The uniqueness of this venue makes it a must visit. The Bakery is open 6am - 4pm 7 days.
