Kokoro Bento
4.6
/ 63

32 Cordelia St, South Brisbane

At first hard to find, but when you know the direction to go to Kokoro Bento is a pleasant find that has both the luxury of being semi-isolated and quiet as well as having its apparent popularity. Between the busy construction on Cordelia Street near Musgrave Park and the back end of the convention centre it makes use of the unlikely location to find somewhere to eat. This food is quick, affordable and all the most important - tasty. It is a fairly small eatery that does not feel as such, with the open courtyard and tables outside. Kokoro Bento is an astutely recognised mixture of healthy, simple food that is palatable and quick for a spot of lunch. There is choices of sushi or traditional Japanese dishes (and a couple of Korean ones as well). Eating utensils and condiments are readily available for the customers to chose at their own decision before heading off; it should be noted that they do not provide plastic bags so if you are ordering a fair bit you might want to take your own. Service is really structured, using the numbering ticket for orders. It is well-done and organised and it is all that it needs to be ultimately, it is that kind of place. Keeping it simple. I got a curry chicken udon and some steamed gyozas from here, and both were pretty good. They did not taste like they came from a fast food outlet and the after-taste was actually good. The gyozas are readily available. The gyozas were small, not very slippery like they can tend to be and were generously stuffed. The pork meat was subtle in flavour making these a good start before the meal. Looking back, it was fortunate to eat these first as there is the stark flavour of the curry udon. How I did not make a mess and splatter with the udon noodles is a mystery with how slippery they were especially using those cursed wooden takeaway chopsticks to use in eating them. Still, it was all pretty damn tasty and generous. There were at least a half dozen bits of chicken katsu which were crispy and well cooked, with the chicken meat being soft and not yet falling apart. The noodles were soft and morish and it all came together as a satisfying meal. Let's hope that this place gets more clientele and recognition; it deserves it.

GOMA Restaurant
4.5
/ 65

Gallery of Modern Art Stanley Place, Cultural Precinct, South Brisbane

Great venue, view and degustation. A nice fine dining experience away from the hustle & bustle of South Bank, but easily accessible. A pefectly sized restaurant, big enough to have a lively ambience and yet it was easy to have a conversation, despite being full with the Friday night crowd (even with a table of 12 - 14 "happy" punters). The degustation and matching wine well presented (see pics), great flavour and filling over the 9 courses. Perfect for any gourmand!

Bao Bar
4.8
/ 49

9b Edmondstone St, South Brisbane

Finally made it here, and so glad we did! Simple menu of bao and sides, but it all sounded so good it was hard to choose!! We opted for the beef shortrib bao and the pork bao, with a side of kimchi fries. Food was excellent! Really tasty, full of flavour. Looking forward to heading back and working our way through the rest of the menu. Prices were ok - not cheap, but fair for what you got. Good range of Balter beers in cans to go with your bao, plus the obligatory Asahi (but why would you? 🤷‍♂️). Super-friendly and efficient service from the staff topped off a wonderful night. Can't wait to go back!!

Next Episode Bar

5/27 Cordelia St, South Brisbane

This is a great little bar in Fish Lane! Fantastic and unique set-up - one seated barber shop out-front, bar in the back 😄. Enjoyed the hiphop music, a live DJ was a good touch. The decor and the atmosphere is very hip. Limited selection of beer and a cider on tap; my beer was nice...quite a few cocktails on the menu though. This place is definitely worth a visit, and the novel store front is impressive.

Podium Level, Rydges South Bank 9 Glenelg St, South Brisbane

very pretty rooftop bar. we went here on a saturday night. it was chilly but they had plenty of outdoor heaters. really good cocktails and the service was great. they had a guy playing saxophone along with the dj. was super disappointed he didn't know careless whisper. mate, thought that'd be saxophone 101. he gave it a good though!

Great place! Nice food and friendly service. I couldn't imagine drinking coffee at a cafe in South Bank in the evening but there can! very nice.

The Treehouse Cafe
4.1
/ 45

164 Grey St, South Brisbane

A regular stop for my coffee and occasional ham and cheese toasty. The coffee is one of the best I've had in Brisbane. Not a big selection of food, but it's not a big shop. The staff are always friendly and don't mind a chat if they have time. There is plenty of seating adjacent to the counter or upstairs, which looks down in Grey Street.
