If you're looking for authentic, homestyle, finger licking, better than those other chicken places, delicious fried chicken...then go no further than Deep South Chicken. When eating somewhere new we always go in with an open mind and an empty stomach but sometimes you can't help but listen to the influence of others. Thankfully everything we had heard (from word of mouth) had been positive about Deep South Chicken. We arrived just after 4:30pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was empty and clean (that's definitely a plus), we ordered our meal, there was a small wait (we were getting freshly made chicken, biscuits and gravy) but the owner was impossibly lovely and we are patient so didn't mind at all. We were given nice peach ice tea (also homemade and not overly sugary) to keep us going, and took a seat near the large open window. If you are wanting to dine it, I'd arrive before or after a busy period as there are only roughly 30 seats in the restaurant itself. To be fair to this restaurant we decided to purchase a family pack, we wished to try as many things as possible for the least amount of money. The family pack consists of six pieces of fried chicken (generous, large pieces), six chicken tenders, two medium fries, two dipping sauces and four homemade biscuits. When the food came out we started with the tenders first, the outside was breaded in a delicious crispy shell, not spicy yet not bland either. The chicken inside was moist and well cooked. Moist enough that if you didn't want to use the dipping sauce you didn't have to. The two dipping sauces we received were blackened ranch and creole buffalo sauce. The ranch was made fresh and just perfect, the creole I wasn't fond of because it was a bit spicy for me but hubby loved it. Next we moved onto the chips, standard chips generously salted but with the dipping sauces moved to next level. The biscuits. Now having married an American who was used to biscuits and gravy as a household staple it's difficult to not only find the right recipe but replicate the light fluffy dough you can get in practically every northern state of America. The biscuits were everything I'd expect them to be if I was in an American restaurant. Crisp on the outside with a buttery texture, light and fluffy on the inside. Having not tried the white sausage gravy before I was extremely apprehensive, but having just one bite I was hooked. The chicken pieces were next and oh my giddy aunt if you could eat them forever it still wouldn't be enough. I'll never eat KFC again because it just can't hold a candle to Deep South Chicken. Hubby just told me my review was too long lol whoops!! Get your butts down to Deep South Chicken it's to die for!!
