David’s was established in 1999 from a small tea store on Chapel Street, founded by Shanghai-born David Zhou. Word of David’s tea talents spread quickly, and he soon opened David’s so he could share Shanghai cuisine with Melbourne. At David’s, we put tradition on the table, offering casual cuisine inspired by countryside Shanghai. Our wholesome fare combines traditional dishes with contemporary tastes. Many of our recipes have been passed down from great grandmothers and are perfect to share with family, friends and colleagues.

Great location. Beautiful atheistic & relaxed atmosphere. Staff were all very nice. We had a few dietary requirements and they handled it perfectly. Great yum cha & not overpriced.

Excellent service. Modern, freshly-made yum cha. Great homely atmosphere & music. Just needs some more variety of dim sum. There's all-you-can-eat yum cha at certain times on weekends.

We booked the Unlimited Yum Cha for $45 per person. I liked everything that was served except I wasn't a fan of the chocolate balls. I prefer the traditional red bean filling.

Great ambience, decent food, staff friendly but kept forgetting to serve our food. We had to ask 4 different staff for the Peking duck and sadly by then they ran out before we could ask for seconds. They also forgot to serve our other orders for seconds and those ran out too. They were very kind to offer drinks on the house but it took another half an hour for those to come and all of us ended up getting parking tickets, so the drinks ended up costing $80 more! Top tip is 2P around the restaurant is not enough, and order seconds early on. Otherwise the food was decent but again the best dish was probably the Peking duck which we didn’t really get to enjoy!

Had the VEGAN YUM CHA. Was quite disappointing for the price. Limited basic dishes were bland, and one not available but were not informed, he had to question why it never came. Desert was a basic fried slice of banana. $120 for two with a pot of tea, definitely not worth it. Female staff were courteous but the men lacked customer service etiquette. Wouldn’t go back or recommend.
